Chandigarh, February 2:-Reinforcing the spirit of participative and people-centric governance, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today organised a Janata Darbar – “Your City, Your Voice” at the MC Office under the chairmanship of city Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi. The open forum provided citizens a direct platform to voice their concerns and seek immediate redressal, reflecting the Corporation’s commitment to transparency, accountability and ease of living.

The Janata Darbar was attended by MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner Sh. Pradeep Kumar, IAS, Joint Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Gupta and Dr. Inder Jeet along with senior officers of concerned departments, enabling on-the-spot decision-making and swift directions.

During the interaction, Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi personally heard grievances raised by residents from various sectors, representatives of market associations, labour unions, street vendors, shopkeepers and citizen groups. Demonstrating a compassionate and solution-oriented approach, the Mayor patiently listened to each issue and issued clear, time-bound directions to the concerned officers for prompt action.

A wide range of civic and social issues were brought to the fore, including:
Sewerage-related concerns such as shifting of chambers and laying of lines
Waiver of street vendor fees and penalties
Challenges faced by street vendors and related policy matters
Construction of E-rickshaw stands with provision of toilets and drinking water
Amendments in allotment and trade policies
Demand for shelter homes for beggars and their families
Issues related to small flats, including sewerage and basic amenities
Maintenance of green belts, parks and public gardens
Requests for change of vending sites and complaints against illegal vending
Appeals for de-sealing of residential properties
Service-related grievances, including re-joining of duty
Problems faced by shopkeepers in city markets
Continuation of stay orders related to street vending
Issues raised by labour and vendor unions at Railway Station and ISBT
Long-pending problems such as waterlogging, sanitation gaps and poor road conditions
Disparity in wages of municipal workers and demand for revision of labour rates
Issues of LIG and EWS housing societies
Demand for permanent sewerage connections in developing and peripheral areas
Cleanliness of parks, improvement of roads and civic infrastructure
Court-related matters, urgent road reconstruction and traffic safety concerns

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Saurabh Joshi emphasized that the Janata Darbar is not merely a grievance forum but a bridge of trust between citizens and the administration.

Every citizen deserves to be heard with dignity. Janata Darbar ensures that people’s voices reach the highest level and that genuine concerns are addressed with sensitivity, responsibility and accountability, the Mayor said.

He further directed all departments to submit action-taken reports within stipulated timelines, making it clear that citizen welfare remains the top priority of the Municipal Corporation.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, responsive and inclusive governance, and encouraged citizens to actively participate in such platforms to collectively build a cleaner, safer and more citizen-friendly Chandigarh.
