CHANDIGARH,23.02.23-Rotary Club of Chandigarh celebrated the 121st birthday of Rotary at the Rotary Peace Monument, Sukhna Lake, here today.
Rotary was founded on 23rd February 1905 in Chicago, and the day is designated as the Rotary Peace and World Understanding Day, and today it spans across the globe with 1.4 million Rotarians in over 45000 Rotary clubs.
President of Rotary Club Chandigarh, Abha Sharma Joshi, announced that Rotary shall be gifting 121 beds to the neo-natal centre in the Sector 32 Government Medical College and Hospital at a cost of nearly Rs. 52 lakh.
Rotary Club Chandigarh itself was chartered on 1958, and has since then been taking up humanitarian projects in the service of humanity including free heart surgeries for children below 20 years, besisdes setting up Rs.4 crore Rotary & Blood Bank Society Resource Centre in Sector 37, a vocational training centre in Sector 18, PGI serai for the attendants of the patients, international dolls museum in sector 23, human milk bank in Mohali.
Prominent Rotarians present on the occasion included former world president of Rotary International Rajendra K Saboo, past district governors Madhukar Malhotra and Praveen Goyal, club's past presidents Hassan Mejie, Vivek Gupta, CJ Singh, Jaspal Sidhu, club secretary Arun Agarwal, among others.
