Ludhiana 25 February 2026-A three day ‘InDeVet Summit 2026: Bridging Science, Policy and Education’ was organized at the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. This summit was attended by the international scientists, academicians and policy makers from Germany and Canada besides their Indian counterparts. The event was inaugurated on 23 February 2026 in line with growing bonhomie and collaboration between Indian and German governments.
Dr. JPS Gill, Vice-Chancellor of the University emphasized that the world is facing several challenges such as climate change, antimicrobial resistance, food safety and security and the risk of pandemics from emerging and novel pathogens. He highlighted that the role of One Health teams is extremely important to mitigate these challenges.
On the second day, a session on the “The Immune System in the Fight Against Infectious Diseases-plan for DFG-DST Project” explored the new therapeutic approaches for humans and animals. In this session, Prof. Maren von Köckritz-Blickwede and Ahmed Elmontaser provided scientific updates on the immune response in the context of infection. Dr. Franziska Langer, Director International Affairs - Duutsche Forschungsgeeinschaft (DFG) Office India highlighted several research funding and collaboration possibilities between Germany and India. It is worth mentioning that DFG is the largest research funding organization and central self-governing organization for the sciences and humanities in Germany.
Prof. Baljit Singh from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and Dr. RS Sethi, Dean College of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU organized a special workshop and hands-on session to develop the core pedagogy for the InDeVet consortium, fostering the next generation of One Health leaders to tackle issues at the interface of animal, human and environmental health. Note that One Health is the collaborative effort between multiple disciplines locally, regionally and globally to attain optimal health for humans, animals and their environment. Furthermore, the national and international experts developed several research proposals that will help improve One Health in their countries and other similar settings and decided to strengthen the ongoing research collaborations.
