CHANDIGARH,04-05-2026-Department of Transfusion Medicine and Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (Regd.), PGIMER, Chandigarh organised a Mega Blood Donation Camp on 2nd May 2026 to kick-off a week-long event till 8th May 2026 to observe World Thalassaemia Day. World Thalassaemia Day is observed on 8th May every year to raise awareness about thalassaemia and promote voluntary blood donation. It was the 333rd Mega Blood Donation Camp of Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (TCT).

The Blood Donation Camp was inaugurated by the Prof(Dr) RK Ratho Dean (Academic), PGIMER, Chandigarh, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest accompanied by Prof(Dr) RR Sharma, HOD, Deptt. of Transfusion Medicine PGI. They encouraged people to come forward for this noble cause, emphasizing that regular blood donation is vital for the survival of thalassaemia patients.

On the occasion, a cake-cutting ceremony was also held to mark the significance of the day and to celebrate the spirit of care and support for patients suffering from thalassaemia. Prof(Dr) Ashok Kumar, Medical Superintendent, Prof(Dr) Ashish Jain and Prof(Dr) Hari Kishan, PGIMER blessed the blood donors and distributed gifts to the blood donors.

The Blood Donation Camp witnessed a positive response, with Hon’ble 158 volunteers stepping forward to donate blood. The organizers expressed gratitude to all donors and participants for their valuable contribution.

Prof.(Dr) RR Sharma, Head Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER and Sh Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust renewed commitment to continue efforts towards better care, awareness and support for thalassaemia patients. The camp was generously sponsored by M/s Unipro Techno Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. and State Bank of India, MI Branch Sector 12 Chandigarh.

Mrs. Vibha Mittal-Chairperson, Smt Roopam Korpal-Joint Secretary, S/Shri Rajinder Kalra-Member Secretary, Dr. Viney Sood-Finance Secretary, AP Singh-Sr. Vice President, Balraj Gill-Vice President, Madan Gandhi, Kush Verma and Amit Sood-Executive Members participated in the celebration.
