Chandigarh, May 7:- Acting on the directions of Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi, the Enforcement Wing of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh carried out a special late-night anti-encroachment drive across various parts of the city to ensure smooth public movement and restore public spaces.
The drive commenced at 10:00 PM and continued throughout the night under the supervision of nine Enforcement Sub Inspectors.
During the operation, enforcement teams removed illegally occupied items left behind by street vendors on V4 roads, public footpaths and other public spaces. The seized material included rehris, tandoors, tables, boxes and other structures that had been unlawfully kept on roadsides after business hours.
The Mayor said that as per rules, essential service provider street vendors are required to remove their belongings daily after closure of business. However, many vendors were found illegally occupying public spaces overnight, causing inconvenience and obstruction to pedestrians and morning commuters.
A total of 14 trucks were deployed during the operation to clear encroachments from public land across the city.
He said that such enforcement drives will now be conducted regularly and strictly, adding that no illegal encroachment or obstruction on public land will be tolerated.
He also appealed to street vendors to conduct their business in accordance with the prescribed rules and regulations to maintain cleanliness, order and smooth movement in the city.
