Chandigarh, May 25, 2026:Reaffirming the Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to transparent, responsive and citizen-centric governance, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today conducted a Samaadhaan Shivir for the residents of Maloya.

The programme, which marked the third Samaadhaan Shivir organised by the Chandigarh Administration, was attended by Mayor Shri Saurabh Joshi; Chief Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri H. Rajesh Prasad; Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of Punjab, Shri Vivek Pratap Singh; Finance Secretary Shri Diprava Lakra; Director General of Police Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda; Deputy Commissioner Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav; along with other senior officers of the Administration.

During the grievance redressal camp, teams from various departments received a total of 84 grievances and applications from residents. All complaints submitted at the venue were duly documented and forwarded to the concerned departments for necessary action and timely resolution.

Residents raised several civic and public welfare issues relating to sanitation, drinking water supply, electricity, roads, street lighting, housing, public health services, education, sewerage, solid waste management and other infrastructure-related matters. Concerns regarding education, sports infrastructure, cleanliness, security and drug abuse were also highlighted, particularly in view of Maloya’s proximity to the Punjab border. Residents further demanded an alternative access route to improve connectivity and ease movement in the area, besides raising concerns regarding high interest liabilities on unpaid rent issues.

Providing on-the-spot responses, officers of the concerned departments clarified queries and informed residents about the measures being taken to address their grievances. While several matters were resolved immediately, cases requiring further intervention were taken up for prompt and coordinated action. The Administrator directed officers to ensure timely disposal of grievances and stressed the importance of accountability, regular monitoring and inter-departmental coordination.

Addressing the residents, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria said that the performance of students is being regularly assessed through CBSE examination results and expressed satisfaction over the improving standards of government schools. He assured that the Chandigarh Administration would continue to strengthen educational facilities and develop better playgrounds and sports infrastructure in government schools of Maloya. Addressing queries related to sports facilities, he further stated that financial assistance amounting to nearly ₹31 crore has been distributed among deserving sportspersons during the last two years.

During the Shivir, the Administrator stated that grievances raised during previous Samaadhaan Shivirs are being regularly monitored to ensure their early resolution. He informed that out of 82 grievances received during the Dadumajra Shivir, 61 have been resolved, 16 are under process, while 5 involve long-term policy matters. Similarly, of the 54 grievances received during the Hallo Majra Shivir, 24 have been resolved, 14 are under process, and around 5–6 cases pertain to policy-related issues. He assured residents that all complaints are being addressed with due seriousness.

During the interaction, residents also raised issues related to CHB dwelling units, including notices issued for alterations/additional constructions and pending dues. The Chief Secretary informed that Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), with the approval of the Hon’ble Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, has recently constituted a committee to examine the matter of regularisation of such changes. He further stated that demolition action based on already issued notices has been kept in abeyance till finalisation of the committee’s recommendations.

Highlighting the Administration’s continued focus on public outreach, Shri Kataria stated that the Chandigarh Administration remains committed to taking governance to the doorstep of citizens and strengthening direct public engagement.
