Revised schedule of Special Intensive Revision(SIR) for the State of Punjab issued by ECI: CEO Anindita Mitra

Chandigarh, May 29: The Election Commission of India has today issued a letter regarding a partial amendment to the previously announced programme for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for the state of Punjab.

Providing information in this regard, Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, Smt. Anindita Mitra, stated that the draft electoral rolls in Punjab will now be published on 03 August 2026.

She informed that similarly, the period for filing claims and objections regarding the electoral rolls is now 03-08-2026 to 02-09-2026,The notice phase/disposal of claims and objections will be done from 03-08-2026 to 28-09-2026.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that the the rest of the schedule continues to be the same as per notification issued on 14th May 2026.

*SC COMMISSION SEEKS REPORT FROM SSP SANGRUR OVER USE OF CASTEIST REMARKS BY RAVNEET SINGH BITTU*

*Chandigarh, May 29:*The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has sought a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur after taking suo motu notice of the use of casteist remarks by Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu.

Disclosing this here today, Chairman of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Jasvir Singh Garhi said that the matter had come to the notice of the Commission through social media reports alleging that Ravneet Singh Bittu used caste-indicative words during his visit to Dhuri.

He further informed that the Commission has forwarded links of the social media reports and directed the authorities to submit an inquiry report through the SP Headquarters, Sangrur by 9:00 AM on June 1, 2026.

*SC COMMISSION DIRECTS PUNJAB POLICE TO SUBMIT ACTION TAKEN REPORT IN RAJA WARRING CASE ON JULY 1*

*Chandigarh, May 29:*The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has directed Punjab Police to submit an Action Taken Report on July 1, 2026 in connection with the case involving Member of Parliament Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

Sharing details in this regard, Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said that the Commission had taken suo motu notice of the use of casteist remarks against Dalit communities by Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring during election campaigning.

He informed that during the hearing held today, the SP Headquarters, Sri Muktsar Sahib appeared before the Commission on behalf of the Senior Superintendent of Police and informed that the process of examining the audio clip related to the matter had already been initiated. Punjab Police has also sought information from Meta in this connection and the report is expected within 30 days.

He further informed that the Commission has directed the authorities to submit the Action Taken Report along with Meta’s report on July 1, 2026.

Chandigarh, May 29:Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) for Girls in SAS Nagar (Mohali) has added another remarkable achievement to its illustrious history, with another of its alumna, Nisha, being commissioned as Sub Lieutenant in the Indian Navy. She successfully passed out from the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, (Kerala), bringing pride and glory to her alma mater and her family.

She was commissioned in an impressive passing out parade, that was reviewed by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.

Sub Lieutenat Nisha, who has been commissioned in the Education Branch of the Indian Navy is daughter of Sh. Dinesh Chander, who is a Senior Assistant at Punjabi University, Patiala.

Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Mr. Aman Arora congratulated Sub Lieutenant Nisha on her remarkable achievement, stating that her success will inspire more young women from Punjab to pursue careers in the defence services. He highlighted Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government's commitment to support aspirations of young women who aim to join the defence forces as commissioned officers. Notably, the Punjab Government has also established an NDA Preparatory Wing for Girls at Mai Bhago AFPI in July 2023, with the third batch currently undergoing training.

Director of Mai Bhago AFPI, Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu, AVSM (Retd), expressed delight over the commissioning of Sub Lieutenant Nisha, stating that this achievement will further energise the state government's efforts to encourage more girls to join the armed forces. He also extended his warm wishes to the newly commissioned officer for a bright future in the Indian Navy.
