Chandigarh, 3 June 2026:Mr. Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, President of the Chandigarh Traders Association, Sector 17, and Member of the Administrator's Advisory Council, has resolved to commute to his business premises on an electric scooter from his residence on Wednesday in support of the Vehicle-Free Wednesday initiative launched by the Chandigarh Administration. Panchhi stated that this inspiration comes from the vision and appeal of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India and the Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, who have consistently encouraged citizens to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
He further emphasized that citizens should voluntarily avoid using their personal vehicles for at least one day every week and opt for alternatives such as walking, cycling, public transport, or electric vehicles. Such small yet meaningful efforts can significantly reduce fuel consumption, curb air pollution, decrease traffic congestion, and promote a healthier lifestyle. “Every citizen's contribution matters. Together, we can create a sustainable future for Chandigarh and set an example for other cities to follow,” Panchhi added.
