Chandigarh, August 30, 2026:The three-day National Sports Day celebrations organised by the Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, from August 28 to 30, 2026, concluded today with a “Sundays on Cycle” cycling event, in which approximately 500 players and trainees, along with coaches, parents and sports enthusiasts, participated.

The celebrations, organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, witnessed the participation of approximately 2,250 players and trainees from various sports disciplines and Sports Complexes. The events aimed to promote sports, fitness, teamwork and greater participation among sportspersons and the community.

The concluding programme commenced with the National Song “Vande Mataram”, followed by the Fit India Oath, reaffirming the participants’ commitment to fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Director Sports, Shri Sorabh Kumar Arora, congratulated the sportspersons, coaches and sports associations of Chandigarh on the occasion of National Sports Day 2026. The cycling rally was flagged off by Dr. Mahinder Singh, Joint Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration. A large number of coaches and parents actively participated in the event and encouraged the young sportspersons.

Dr. Bhagwant Singh, IYA, Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, and Sh. Gurminder Singh, Senior Hockey Coach, were also present during the event.

The successful conclusion of the National Sports Day celebrations paid tribute to the invaluable contribution of Major Dhyan Chand to Indian sports and reaffirmed the commitment of the Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, to promoting sports, fitness and active participation among the sporting community.
