Chandigarh, 13.09.26-Many couples assume that on the death of one spouse, all jointly held assets pass automatically to the survivor. Under Indian law, this is not always correct. Joint ownership, bank mandates and nominations govern operation and access — not necessarily final succession. A Will, whether Joint, Mutual or a Mirror Will, should clearly state what happens after each spouse's death and what rights the survivor holds. Couples are encouraged to review asset ownership, bank nominations and testamentary arrangements together, rather than assuming automatic survivorship. This is a general public awareness message and not a legal guide.
