Chandigarh, 15 September: Postgraduate Department of Chemistry at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with R&D Cell and under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised a special lecture and a two-day workshop on spectroscopic techniques. The initiative provided students with hands-on training in the operation and application of sophisticated instruments, including UV–VIS, IR, NMR, Fluorimeter and Cyclic Voltammeter.
The lecture-cum-workshop was aimed at fostering scientific curiosity among young learners and highlighting the significance of spectroscopic techniques in modern scientific analysis. Through interactive sessions, expert lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities and spectral interpretation, the programme sought to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and their real-world scientific applications.
The programme featured an expert lecture by Dr. Gaganpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, who delivered an insightful session on Fluorescence Spectroscopy. She explained its fundamental principles and working mechanism and elaborated on its diverse applications in chemical analysis. Expert sessions on UV–VIS Spectroscopy, IR Spectroscopy and NMR Spectroscopy were conducted by Dr. Shilpa Dogra, Dr. Archana and Dr. Manjot Kaur, Assistant Professors, Department of Chemistry, MCM DAV College for Women. The two-day experiential component provided participants with practical exposure to various spectroscopic instruments, enabling them to understand their working principles and gain firsthand experience in instrument handling and spectral interpretation.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the Department of Chemistry for organising the insightful and research-oriented programme. She emphasised that such initiatives play a significant role in nurturing scientific temper among students and creating awareness about the importance of science, technology and innovation in addressing real-world challenges.
