PU VC visited UICET Laboratories

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab
University, Chandigarh today visited different laboratories at
University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology including
Mass Transfer Research Laboratory, Food Technology Laboratory and Unit
Operation Laboratory to oversee the on-going research activities in
these laboratories.

During his visit, the Vice Chancellor
interacted with the research scholars and showed his keen interest in
their research projects. He assured them all possible help for the
promotion of quality research on the University campus and stated that
there will be no dearth of resources and money for the same.

Later, in his classroom interaction, PU VC motivated the students of
B.E. Chemical to generate new ideas and to engage in innovative
research activities. He shared with the students about the upcoming
Incubation Centre at the Panjab University Campus. He also inspired
the students to join the ‘Earn while you Learn’ scheme. He encouraged
the students to maintain cleanliness in the surroundings.

PU VC releases Animal Lovers Association Calendar

Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh
released the Calendar of Animal Lovers Association (ALA) for the year
2020, here today and congratulated the members of the Association for
putting up the great work on voluntary basis. The calendar was
presented to him by Ms Nandini Kakar, Dr Deepak Sharma from the
organisation and Dr Gaurav Gaur from Panjab University, Chandigarh at
the PU campus.

While extending his greetings to Animal Lovers Association, PU VC
Prof. Raj Kumar solicited support from everyone to address the gaps
for the betterment of the society as well as animals. He congratulated
Ms Nandini Kakar, General Secretary, Animal Lovers Association and Dr
Deepak Sharma, Vice President, of the organisation and Guest Faculty
working with Department of Public Administration, Panjab University
for undertaking the pertinent and neglected cause of welfare of
community animals.

Animal Lovers Association (ALA) is a registered, non-profit, self
funded organization working for the welfare of animals. The managing
committee comprises of PU Alumni, members of varied professions and
run an animal shelter in Village Soonk, District Mohali. The shelter
houses sick and injured small as well as large animals that include
cows, bulls, donkeys, horses, dogs, birds.


The shelter is receiving continuous support from Dr Gaurav Gaur,
Assistant Professor, Centre for Social Work and NSS programme officer
, Panjab University and his team of enthusiastic volunteers. He has
supervised two projects namely Dog population census in Panjab
University and Phasing out of horse carts in Chandigarh under his able
guidance.

PU Sanskrit Scholar wins best paper

Satyan Sharma, a research scholar at the Department of Sanskrit,
Panjab University, won the Dr. V. G. Rahurkar best paper presentation
award in Vedanta Philosophy at the 50th session of the All India
Oriental Conference held at Nagpur from 10th to 12th January 2020.

Satyan Sharma presented his paper titled,
“˜Because Time is not Self: On Anandajanana’s Refutation of Kala” at
the conference, which is based on a 13th century rare Sanskrit text on
the ancient Indian philosophy and dialectics. He is perusing his
research work at Panjab University under the supervision of Dr.
Lakhvir Singh. He was awarded the prize during the valedictory
session held on the 12th January 2020 at the
Suresh Bhat Sabhagruh, Nagpur. The conference was organised by
Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, Nagpur and the this
year marked a 100 years of the
conference.

The Chairperson of the Department of Sanskrit,
Panjab University, Dr. V. K. Alankar called a meeting of the research
scholars to congratulate Satyan Sharma. He said that the department is
proud of him and that each research scholar should participate in
seminars and conferences all over India.

PU Rose Festival
The 11th Panjab University Rose Festival is going to be held from 7th
to 9th February, 2020.
Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden has been given a facelift for the
Festival. The entrance gates have been beautified and hedges have been
better designed. More than 3400 Rose plants of 158 varieties are
adorning the garden. 13 nos. new plants have been added this year.
Certain varieties will have different colours of flowers blossoming in
the same plant will add to the beauty of the garden.

The objective is to give green & clean environment message to the
general public and to explore the hidden talent of students. During
the three days festival, the different competitions will be arranged
for different age groups among the School Children, College and
University Students.


Entries for flower competition will be accepted upto 06.02.2020 till
5:00 p.m. at Rose Festival Secretariat, Single Window Enquiry, Near
Post Office, Panjab University, Sector-14, Chandigarh and on
07.02.2020 till 10:00 a.m. at Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden, Panjab
University, Chandigarh.


Entries for photography competition will be accepted upto 04.02.2020
till 5:00 p.m.. Entries for all other competitions will be accepted
upto 05.02.2020 till 5:00 p.m.

Apart from it, for the entertainment and to spread Indian culture
among the masses, we will be organizing Cultural/Star Nights in the
evenings of all three days of the competitions.

To cater to the need of the visitors, there would be variety of food
space in the Food Court. For entertainment of children & youngsters,
rides and gaming zones will be set up.

Stalls for display and sale of products and services can be put up the
festivals.

The form for booking of stalls at the Panjab University Rose Festival
can also be downloaded from the website or can be obtained from the
office of Divisional Engineer (Hort.), Construction Office, Panjab
University, Sector-14, Chandigarh.

Students of the University may associate with the Panjab University
