Chandigarh, July 21, 2015-The Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India organized an Orientation Workshop on ‘Mother and Child Health and Mission Indradhanush’ for its Field Publicity Officers (FPOs) from the states of Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The North West Region of Directorate of Field Publicity would be launching a massive awareness programme on Mother and Child Health and Mission Indradhanush from August to December 2015 in the above three states for the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

 

            Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Dr. Harinder Pal Singh Bali, Director Health Services (Family Welfare), Punjab said that Central Government as well as the state Government is providing free health services for the mothers and children right from the stage of pregnancy to the vaccination to the new born is over including the free facilities of transportation for delivery, medicines, vaccination etc. He informed that Mission Indradhanush is aimed at complete immunization of the children, which is targeted to cover a total 1.5 lakh children in Punjab. Out of which, 29000 have already been immunized in the first phase started in April 2015 in four districts of Punjab. In the next phase, 1.20 lakh children will be covered in 12 more districts of Punjab. He advised the FPOs to spread the message of safe motherhood and childcare along with complete immunization under Mission Indradhanush door to door especially in far-flung areas.  He also expressed hope that these awareness programmes would certainly help in bringing down the infant and maternal mortality rate.  

 

The Guest of Honour, Shri Ravinder Singh, Director (Northern Region), Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh said that the field officers must envisage a strategy generating awareness among the common people.  He urged them to convey the message in the local idiom so that the people are inspired to inculcate the message in an easy way. He advised the participant to keep hammering on the minds of the people for the effective dissemination of information on these important health issues.

 

            Throwing light on the whole campaign, Shri Ashish Goyal, Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity (NWR), Chandigarh said that the objective of the workshop was to sensitize the field officers for publicity techniques on above health issues as, thereafter they are to conduct a massive awareness campaign in the villages of above three states through conducting rallies/publicity programmes. He further said that the campaign will aim at creating greater awareness regarding Mother & Child Health including interventions at like reproductive health, maternal health, newborn health, child health and adolescent health along with objectives of Mission Indradhanush.

 

            In other sessions of the workshop, Dr. Deepika, Deputy Director, National Health Mission, Haryana gave an overview of the priority areas and focus of the government on health and nutrition of the adolescent. Dr. G.B. Singh, Deputy Director, (DHS), Punjab enlightened the participants on various aspects of Mission Indradhanush, Mother & Child Health, Janani Suraksha Yojana etc.

 

            Earlier Sh. Anil Gaur, Assistant Director, DFP, Chandigarh welcomed the guests and, Shri Pritam Singh, Assistant Director, DFP, Jalandhar proposed the vote of thanks in the workshop.
