CHANDIGARH, 29.01.25-The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, celebrated National Voters' Day with a series of engaging events.

The celebration commenced with the playing of the Election Commission of India’s official song titled ‘Main Bharat Hoon-Hum Bharat Ke Matdata Hain’. The Club in collaboration with the Department of Political Science organised the screening of the documentary ‘Samvidhaan- The Making of the Constitution’. This tribute to the makers of the Indian Constitution aimed to educate the students about the monumental effort that shaped the country's democratic foundation.

Additionally, a documentary on Birsa Munda, a legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter, was also screened, highlighting his significant contributions to India's struggle for independence. The Club also organised a Voter Registration Drive, encouraging students to register as voters and exercise their democratic rights. ELC volunteers assisted students in making their voter cards, verifying necessary documents on the spot. The drive successfully raised awareness about the importance of voting, simplified the registration process, and motivated the students for maximum participation in elections. A selfie point with the theme ‘Nothing like Voting, I Vote for Sure’ was also set up to create electoral awareness among students and encourage participation in the electoral process.
The Club organised an Electoral Awareness Rally wherein the students were sensitised about their right to vote. The rally featured slogans, handmade posters, and a display of unity, firmness, and strength among the youth. The students and staff members were also administered Voter's Day Pledge on National Voters' Day.

Officiating Principal Ms. Suman Mahajan emphasised the power of casting votes judiciously and advised students to perform this national duty with dedication. She lauded the Electoral Literacy Club for successfully promoting electoral awareness, encouraging voter registration, and fostering a sense of democratic responsibility among students.
