CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR/JALANDHAR, December 17:In the wake of the attack at the Police Station Islamabad in Amritsar, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday visited the city and directed officers concerned to ensure professional policing and take strict action against the perpetrators. The visit came a few hours after the incident reported at Islamabad Police Station at around 3am on Tuesday.

Chairing a high-level meeting, the DGP Punjab emphasised the need for officers to use both technical and human intelligence to detect and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

He asked the officers to identify common trends and patterns in such heinous crimes and conduct investigations in a scientific manner, utilising all the technical and forensic tools for detection of crimes to ensure convictions of accused persons.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ferozepur Range Ranjit Singh Dhillon, DIG Border Range Satinder Singh and SSP Amritsar Rural Charanjit Singh.

DGP Gaurav Yadav has also reviewed the law and order situation of the border districts and taken stock of the progress achieved in previous attacks on police establishments. “All the previous cases of attacks on the Police establishments including IED implant at Ajnala Police Station and hand grenade attack at Police Post Asron in Nawanshahr have been solved successfully and accused persons have been arrested,” he said

n a separate meeting, the DGP addressed all the Superintendent of Police (SPs), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) from border districts including Commissionerate Police Amritsar, Amritsar Rural, Batala and Tarn Taran to brief them about the top priorities of the Punjab Police.

He directed the officers to intensify fight against counter-terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and street crime. He also asked them to tackle such crimes professionally and ensure prompt registration of FIRs in such cases.

He also encouraged police officers to act promptly on tips received via the newly launched Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline '9779100200'. This helpline allows citizens to report drug traffickers anonymously.

The DGP also joined the ‘Bada Khana’ lunch organized by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police, which provided an opportunity to officers of all ranks to interact with the Head of the Police Force and exchange ideas, thereby strengthening the bond that is essential for effective teamwork in the field.

Later, DGP Gaurav Yadav also visited Jalandhar and held a similar meeting with senior officers including CP Jalandhar Swapan Sharma, DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, SSP Jalandhar Rural Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, SSP Hoshiarpur Surendra Lamba, SSP Kapurthala Gaurav Toora and other gazetted officers and SHOs of the Jalandhar Commissionerate and Jalandhar range to review law and order situation.

The DGP also participated in a brainstorming session organised for the officers at the cutting edge level in which experience sharing and crime solutions adopted by various Police Stations were discussed.

During the session, the model adopted by the Police Station Aur in district SBS Nagar to combat drug trafficking at point of sale by utilising public cooperation was discussed.

He applauded the various crime solution techniques being used by the different districts including crime mapping in Jalandhar city, use of appropriate Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for organised crime in district Hoshiarpur, extensive use of CCTVs and establishment of sub divisional control rooms in district Kapurthala and focused attention of professional policing in district Jalandhar Rural, where campaigns to arrest persons involved in heinous offences, traffic enforcement drive with special focus on two-wheelers.

Vigilance Bureau arrests absconding Contractor for causing loss to state exchequer

Chandigarh December 17, 2024 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday arrested Vikas Khanna, a private contractor in Amritsar who was absconding in a corruption case registered against him by the Bureau. The accused had frequently been allotted a plot in Amritsar Improvement Trust, (AIT) Amritsar at much lower rate than the fixed price and had got government tenders deceptively.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested after investigation of the above said case. During the enquiry the VB has found that the accused contractor had got alloted a plot measuring 200 square yards at much below the market rate in his name in conviniance with the then Chairman of AIT therby causing a huge monetary loss to the state exchequer. It has also came to notice that the accused had fraduantly got his firm enlisted with the said Trust and was awarded Government tenders in violation of set norms and conditions. In addition to this, the accused also fraduantly got a Verka Milk booth sanctioned in his name.

The spokesperson added that based on the probe an FIR dated 06.07.2022 U/s 409, 201, 120-B and 13(2), 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at VB Police Station, Amritsar range. The accused was on the run and was declared Proclaimed Offender (PO) by the Trial Court. The VB teams had conducted multiple raids to nab the accused which forced him to surrender. The accused has been brought on production warrant from Central Jail Amritsar and arrested as per law. A remand of one day has been taken from the court for further investigating in all aspects of this case.

Chandigarh, December 17:Punjab School Education Department has launched an ambitious residential winter camp in the Residential Meritorious Schools at Mohali, Jalandhar and Bathinda under the Punjab Academic Coaching for Excellence (PACE). This camp focuses on Grade 11 and 12 students aspiring to qualify for competitive examinations like IIT-JEE and NEET. With in total of 1200 students from Schools of Eminence (SOE) participating, the PACE camps are designed to provide intensive coaching and support, thereby improving their chances of success in these professional exams.

Divulging further details, an official of the department said that the month-long winter camp, being held at Senior Secondary Residential School For Meritorious Students (RSMS) Mohali, Jalandhar and Bathinda is structured to offer additional focus hours, coaching and resources beyond the regular PACE classes. This initiative underscores Punjab’s commitment to academic excellence and preparing students for competitive futures.

He said that as part of the camp's quality assurance and community involvement, parents & School Management Committee (SMC) members from all Schools of Eminence, across districts were invited to observe the camp facilities and operations. The camp was visited by Mr. Paramjit Singh, Director School Education (Secondary), Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, Assistant Director SOE, to foresee the facilities and interacted with teachers and parents. The District Education Officer (Secondary) Dr. Ginny Duggal and RSMS School Principal Mrs. Ritu Sharma addressed the parents, gave them a school tour and interacted with them. The visit includes three main activities such as classroom observation, school rounds and student interactions. During the classroom observations, parents silently monitored the sessions, focusing on the quality of classroom teaching and student participation. Suggestions were also invited from SMC members and some volunteered to support the camp in various ways, standing with the teachers on this important day for the school.

During the school rounds, SMC members observed various arrangements, including the cleanliness and organization of the dining area, hostel conditions, and the safety protocols in place. They heard from wardens about student routines and reviewed the overall hygiene and maintenance of the hostel facilities. Parents also visited the medical room to speak with the on-duty medical team.

Parents also took the opportunity to speak with students during breaks to gauge their well-being and discuss their career aspirations. These interactions provided valuable insights into the students' experiences and the impact of the camp on their academic and personal growth, he added.

Municipal Councillor of Phase-3B1 Mr. Jaspreet Singh Gill, who visited the camp shared, “I applaud the state government's initiative to boost the talent of Punjab's youth by providing quality coaching for entrance exams from reputed institutes like Physics Walla. Such initiatives should be further encouraged to ensure our children have the best opportunities for brighter future”.

One parent shared, "The camp is a great opportunity for students to prepare themselves for competitive exams. The teachers attend their doubts and give them suggestions on how to approach a questio. The school campus is also highly secure and clean with all facilities.”

Vigilance Bureau arrests Police Sub-Inspector for accepting Rs 10000 bribe

Chandigarh December 17, 2024 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday arrested Sub-Inspector Daljit Singh (Now Retired), who was then posted at police station Cantonment, Amritsar for accepting a bribe of Rs 10000. He was currently lodged in the Central Jail Amritsar under NDPS Act and was brought on the production warrant and was arrested as per law by the Bureau.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned police official has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Joga Singh, a resident of village Kotli Naseer Khan, Amritsar.

He further added that as per the complaint the accused police Sub-Inspector during his posting had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant in lieu of declaring his son innocent in an FIR against him lodged in the year 2017 at the police station Amritsar Cantonment.

During investigation of this complaint, it was proved that the said police personnel had demanded Rs 100,000 and had taken a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant for the above said motive.

The spokesperson informed that in this regard, an FIR dated 28.11.2024 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Amritsar range. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
