The Department of Physical Education at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised a one-week programme under the aegis of Fit India Movement of Governance of India. The aim of the programme was to promote the cause of Fit India Movement, i.e., to inspire the citizens to be more physically active and fit. As part of the programme, the department held a Yoga workshop, a Football match for the students, and a Cricket match for the male staff members. During the 3-day Yoga workshop,
Dr. Anju Lata, Head of the Physical Education Department, conducted session on body toning exercises, session on asanas focusing on various diseases like thyroid, diabetes, obesity, etc., and a session on pranayama and meditation. A friendly football match among the students witnessed enthusiastic participation. A cricket match for the male staff members provided them an opportunity to indulge in a sporting event that promotes physical fitness. On the concluding day of the programme, fitness equipments were distributed among all the participants.
Officiating Principal Ms. Suman Mahajan reaffirmed the college’s commitment towards the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices through such endeavours. Highlighting the importance of such initiatives, she said that these are necessary to raise awareness about the health issues caused due to sedentary lifestyle, and the significance of regular physical activity for staying disease free.
