Chandigarh, January 11: “Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest sons of India, said that there is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved, it is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing”, said Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, at the inauguration of GGDSD Female Entrepreneurship Incubator at GGDSD College, Chandigarh. Rajmata Uma Devi, of erstwhile Nabha estate of Punjab was the Chief Guest of the day and prominent others who participated included Prof. (Dr.) Anirudh Joshi, General Secretary, GGDSD College Society, Mr. Abdul Hamid Bhat, CEO, Rahim Motors & Rahim Greens, Srinagar (The Tree Man of Kashmir), senior journalist Mr. Deepak Dhiman, Mr. Krishan Juneja, CA, Ex-President, GGDSD Alumni Association and Mr. Pramod Sharma, Founder, Yuvsatta (youth for peace).
Giving information about the initiative Mr. Pramod Sharma said that celebrating National Youth Day, this unique ‘GGDSD Female Entrepreneurship Incubator’, a joint initiative of Yuvsatta and GGDSD College was launched today, with a target of preparing fifty female first year students of the college to become successful entrepreneurs.
Prof. Anirudh Joshi shared that for Indian women, empowerment can be an uphill task: they need to strike an astute balance with customs and traditions. While the Indian Government is incessantly working for the upliftment of women, we, too, need to become aware of their rights, schemes and benefits that can help achieve overall empowerment. It is ironic that a country, which has recently acclaimed the status of the first Asian country to accomplish its Mars mission in the maiden attempt, is positioned at the 108th rank among 146 countries in World Economic Forum (WEF) gender gap index, same as 2017.
Rajmata Uma Devi while appreciating the project of preparing female entrepreneurs at GGDSD College, said that in recent years, India has witnessed a rise in the number of successful women entrepreneurs. These inspiring businesswomen in India have not only broken the glass ceiling but also contributed immensely to the country’s economic growth. As the number of female entrepreneurs grows, phenomenal transformations are going to happen in the year 2025.
