Chandigarh, 18th January 2025: As part of the ongoing "National Road Safety Month-2025," the Chandigarh Traffic Police, under the leadership of Sh. Surendra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, SSP/Security & Traffic and supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DSP/Road Safety & Development, Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector, I/C-CTP, conducted multiple road safety awareness drives/sessions across various locations in the city today.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police, led by Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector and I/C-CTP, conducted an awareness session for over 90 bus staff, including drivers and attendants from various schools, at Bhawan Vidyalya, Sector-27, Chandigarh. This initiative was aimed at educating the staff on road safety and emergency response skills. A significant part of the event was the CPR training session conducted by a team of doctors from Fortis Hospital. The session focused on Basic Life Support (BLS) techniques, specifically addressing how to assist unresponsive victims, perform chest compressions, and prepare for smooth victim transfer to hospitals in the case of emergencies like sudden cardiac arrest. Additionally, a road safety pledge was taken by the attendees, reinforcing their commitment to following safe road practices. The session was supported by the Vice-Principal of Bhawan Vidyalya, Ms. Arpita Bansal, along with other school staff members. The doctors involved in the training, Dr. Gloria and Ms. Meena Batta, played an essential role in delivering the CPR training
The awareness team of CTP, Sector-23, also visited at Hallomajra, Chandigarh, where they engaged with approximately 100 students & teachers of Social Worker Free Tuition Centre. The awareness initiative was further strengthened through collaboration with Ms. Sanjana Vats, District Youth Officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra Chandigarh, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. They worked together with the Chandigarh Traffic Police to sensitize the public on essential traffic rules and regulations. During the event, the team distributed awareness pamphlets, MYBharat T-shirts and caps among the attendees to promote the message of road safety.
During these road safety sessions, the participants were sensitized about the Safe Transportation Policy for Students (STRAPS), importance of parking the vehicles in designated areas, giving way to the ambulance and other emergency vehicles, maintaining lane discipline, Engine switch-off at red lights to reduce the pollution. The session also covered various aspects of road safety, including use of safety gear, such as BIS-certified helmets and seat belts for adults and children over four years of age, adherence to road signage, markings, and traffic light signals.
In addition to these sessions, the Chandigarh Traffic Police set up a Road Safety Exhibition Van showcasing real-life examples of road safety through videos and displays. This van toured several locations across the city, including Piccadilly Chowk and Market, Sector-15, Chandigarh. The general public was educated about ‘No Parking’ parking their vehicles in designated areas avoiding obstruction on roads and they were sensitized about giving way to the ambulance and other emergency vehicles.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police urges all citizens to adhere to traffic rules & regulations for their own safety and that of others, ultimately contributing to safer roads and fewer traffic-related fatalities.
