CHANDIGARH, 25.01.25-The Enactus SSBUICET team of Panjab University conducted an impactful workshop at Gur Aasra Trust, Village Palsora, Chandigarh, to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstrual health and hygiene. Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of Enactus and Vice President of the Corporate Sustainability Council, Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CSC WICCI), Chandigarh, shared that the workshop was organized as part of the Republic Day celebrations. Gur Aasra Trust, led by Chairman Shri Kawar Singh Dhami, was chosen as the venue for its unwavering commitment to supporting destitute individuals, including the sick, widows, and orphaned or abandoned children who are often neglected by society.
The event drew a substantial number of women and young girls who often face limited access to proper menstrual education and hygiene due to socioeconomic barriers. The workshop was enriched by the presence of resource person, Dr. Rajni Lamba, CEO of The Rural Environmental Enterprises Development Society (The REEDS). With extensive experience working with marginalized groups and grassroots communities, Dr. Lamba emphasized the critical role of menstrual hygiene in women’s health and empowerment. She emphasized the importance of creating awareness, advocating for affordable and sustainable solutions and ensuring accessibility for underprivileged groups. Dr. Lamba passionately stated that menstrual health is a fundamental right, not a privilege and called for breaking the silence and stigma around the subject. She explained that educating women and girls about their bodies fosters informed decision-making, empowering them to lead healthier, more confident lives.
As part of the team's ongoing commitment to support marginalized communities, the Enactus team distributed cloth-based, eco-friendly sanitary napkins produced under the sustainability project, UDAY of Enactus team in collaboration with the CSR initiative Amodini by Versatile Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana.
One of the girls sang a deeply moving song “Love you bebe” that truly touched the Enactus members, leaving them emotional, told Muskaan Sihag, President of the team. She shared that the workshop received an overwhelming positive response, with participants expressing gratitude for the team's efforts in creating a safe and inclusive environment to discuss topics often regarded as sensitive.
