Chandigarh, 25th January 2025: As part of National Road Safety Month-2025, the Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a Cyclothon this morning to promote road safety and environmental protection.

Sh. Surendra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, Chandigarh, graced the event as the Chief Guest and flagged off the Cyclothon at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. Sh. Raj Kumar Singh, IPS, IGP/UT, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, SSP/Security & Traffic, along with other senior police officers, were present to support the initiative. The event was meticulously organized under the supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DSP/Road Safety & Development, and Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector, I/C CTP. More than 450 cyclists participated, including volunteers from Cycleigiri, Chandigarh Resident Associations Welfare Federation, NSS Volunteers, school students, police department officers, environmentalists, and senior citizens.

The morning’s activity kicked off with a vibrant warm-up session featuring dance and Zumba led by RJ Apoorva from 92.7 Big FM. Several dignitaries were present, including Ms. Seema Chaudhry, NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Sunaina Bansal, Mr. Akshit Passi from Cyclegiri, and many others who contributed to the success of the event. The primary goal of the event was to raise awareness about road safety and encourage responsible cycling, while also promoting cleaner, healthier environments. The message to participants emphasized reducing carbon footprints and improving air quality by choosing cycling as a mode of transportation.

The Cyclothon route took participants through Matka Chowk, concluding at Plaza, Sector-17, Chandigarh. At the event’s conclusion, a road safety quiz was held at Plaza, where NSS Volunteer Rohan from GMSSS-37 was awarded a trophy for providing the quickest and correct answers. Special awards were presented to Prof. SS Bhatti and Sh. SS Dhindsa from Cyclegiri for being the oldest participants.

The Chandigarh Traffic Police urges all citizens to adhere to traffic rules and regulations for their own safety and that of others, ultimately contributing to safer roads and fewer traffic-related fatalities.
