ALL INDIA SERVICES HOCKEY, WRESTLING AND VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENTS; TRIALS OF PUNJAB TEAMS FOR ON 3rd FEBRUARY
Chandigarh, January 29:Central Civil Services Cultural and Board are organizing the All India Services Hockey, Wrestling and Volleyball (Men & Women) tournament from 14th to 28th February 2025 at different places.
Trials for the selection of Hockey teams will be held at Surjit Hockey Stadium Jalandhar on 3rd February at 11 am, Wrestling at Nehru Stadium Faridkot on 3rd February at 11 am and Volleyball teams will be held at Multipurpose Stadium, Sector 63 SAS Nagar (Mohali) on 3rd February at 11 am.
The spokesman of the sports department further informed that in these trials security services personnel/para-security organizations/central police organizations/police/RPF/CISF/BSF/ITBP and NSG etc., autonomous parties/undertakings/public sector Banks including central ministry run banks, excluding casual/daily workers, temporary office workers, newly recruited employees who have been in regular services for less than 6 months, Government employees (regular), government officials (regular) of different departments can participate only after receiving NoC from their departments. The cost of travel, accommodation and food in this tournament will be paid by the player personally.

Vigilance Bureau nabs retired Head Constable, accomplice of SHO, for accepting Rs 10,000 bribe
SHO illegally deployed retired cop at police station
Chandigarh, January 29, 2025:The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption, has arrested a retired Head Constable (HC) Balwinder Singh, an accomplice of the Station House Officer (SHO) of police station Machhiwara in Ludhiana district while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The accused had been performing duties at the police station without any official orders from the police department.
Disclosing this, an official spokesperson of the VB stated that the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by Sukhvir Singh, a resident of Mohan Majra village in Machhiwara sub-division of Khanna police district.
The spokesperson further added that the complainant had approached the VB Range office in Ludhiana, reporting that his car had been impounded by the Machhiwara police. According to the complaint, said Balwinder Singh informed him that his car was in the custody of Moharrir Head Constable (MHC) Karan and demanded Rs 25,000 for its release. However, after negotiation, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 15,000.
On January 28, 2025, the complainant again spoke to HC Balwinder Singh over the phone, requesting to reduce the bribe amount. The accused agreed to accept Rs 10,000 and the complainant has recorded the conversation as evidence and submitted it to the VB Range office in Ludhiana.
The spokesperson added that after conducting a preliminary inquiry, a VB team from Ludhiana range laid a trap during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the Rs 10,000 bribe from the complainant outside the Machhiwara police station in the presence of two official witnesses. Subsequently, the VB team has found the complainant’s car parked in the police station premises.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused had already retired from the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) but was illegally deployed at the police station by the SHO of Machhiwara without any departmental orders. The accused continued working at the police station in an unofficial capacity. The role of the concerned SHO and MHC is also under scanner.
He informed that a case has been registered against the said accused under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the VB Police Station, Ludhiana Range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow, and further investigations into this case was under progress.

Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI for taking Rs 15,000 bribe
Chandigarh 29 January 2025 :The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing crackdown against bribery, has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Prashotam Lal, posted at Police Station Aur, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on charges of taking bribe of Rs 15,000. He had been absconding for the last 4 months, evading his arrest in this case.
Giving information in this regard, a spokesperson of the VB said that this case was registered after investigating the complaint filed by the complainant Dev Raj, resident of village Gudapad, Police Station Aur, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar against the said policeman on the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line.
He said that the complainant had alleged that in return for helping in the case registered against him and his sons at Police Station Aur, the said ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs. 30,000. The complainant had recorded the conversation with the said ASI Prashotam Lal on different dates regarding the transaction of bribe money in his mobile phone.
During enquiry by the VB, the allegations made in this complaint regarding taking a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from the complainant on different dates were proved. Subsequently, a FIR No. 22 on 30.09.2024 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 308(2) of the Bharti Nyaya Sanhita was registered against the accused ASI Prashotam Lal at Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Jalandhar.
During the investigation, it was also revealed that the said accused ASI had also taken bribes from the accused Amanpreet alias Maney of another case number 50 dated 01.07.2024 registered at Police Station Aur through this complainant and from the accused Joga Ram and Harjinder Kaur accused in case number 58 dated 24.07.2024.
The accused ASI Prasottam Lal was produced in the court today and was granted one-day remand. Further investigation of this case was under progress, he said.
