Ludhiana 26 September 2024-NSS Unit of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana planted neem trees along the canal road to mark NSS Day, under the Swachhata hi Seva And Ek ped Maa ke naam campaign.
The Tree plantation drive was an ideal opportunity to instill the value of social responsibility in the NSS Volunteers towards conservation of trees and forests.
Dr. Nidhi Sharma, NSS Prog Coordinator and Assistant Director Publications, said it was an attempt to form a personal connection between the volunteers and trees. She further informed that more than 100 volunteers planted a total of 90 Neem saplings and took oath to protect them.
The event was graced by Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director Students’ Welfare-cum-EO and S. Jaskaran Singh, Assistant Estate Officer. Dr. Brar emphasised on watering the saplings and safeguarding them for its conservation.
NSS Prog. Officers of all the colleges participated in tree plantation that came up to be a great success. Dr. Narender Chandal, NSS Prog. Officer informed that Neem tree could be traced back to the Vedas and its leaves have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it a widely useful tree throughout India.
