NEW DELHI: 13/03/2024-“We haven't left any shortage of anything; we are working on all fronts. We are working for every area and every section of Delhi,” said CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, while dedicating the three-lane flyover built on Moti Nagar Ring Road to the public.
In a significant development aimed at easing traffic woes for Delhi commuters, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated a crucial 3-lane flyover connecting Dhulakuan, Azadpur, and Rohatak, Haryana. Addressing the public, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the benefits of the flyover, noting that what used to be a half-hour ordeal to cover a mere half kilometre due to traffic congestion will now be a breezy three-minute journey. Reflecting on Delhi's infrastructure growth, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal revealed that while only 63 flyovers existed in Delhi by 2014, the city has seen the addition of 31 more in the past 9 years, effectively building half of the number since independence. Meanwhile, PWD Minister Atishi said that with its inauguration, there will be an annual reduction of 6 lakh litres of fuel and 50 thousand tons of carbon dioxide pollution.
The PWD has constructed this 3-lane flyover on Moti Nagar Ring Road. This will benefit people traveling from Dhulakuan to Azadpur and Rohatak. CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated and unveiled the name plaque of this flyover. PWD officials briefed CM on the flyover model. CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, PWD Minister Atishi, MLA Somnath Bharti, Shivcharan Goel, and Girish Soni were welcomed by presenting seedlings. Senior officials of PWD were also present during the event.
Shri Arvind Kejriwal congratulated Delhiites for the newly built 3-lane flyover in Moti Nagar. “Earlier it used to take half an hour to travel half a kilometre. It gets irritating and tiring getting stuck amidst traffic. With the construction of the new flyover, this will be covered within 3 minutes. Moti Nagar flyover is just a small component, the bigger and primary component is the Club Road Flyover, which will be ready by July of this year. It took 18 months to build the Moti Nagar flyover, and the Club Road flyover will be completed in about 21 months.
“After independence, in the last 75 years, 63 flyovers had been constructed in Delhi. Since the people of Delhi entrusted us with responsibility, in the last 10 years, we have built 31 flyovers. Today, we are inaugurating the 31st flyover. We have demonstrated 50% of the work done in the past 75 years in Delhi, in just 10 years. It only requires clear intentions. Earlier, the issue was not lack of funds but lack of intention,” the Delhi CM said.
CM Shri Arvind further added that currently, two types of work are underway in Delhi. One is for the welfare of the people, such as providing free electricity. This has slightly reduced the burden of inflation on the people. As a result of free electricity, approximately 73% of the people in Delhi receive zero electricity bills. Electricity is available in Delhi 24 hours a day now, which has greatly benefited the people.
“We have built excellent government schools for children. The middle class and the poor were forced to send their children to expensive private schools, costing them ₹3,000 - ₹4,000 per child every month. Now, the middle class and the poor no longer need to send their children to expensive private schools. Our government schools are so outstanding today that they are no less than private schools in any way. Our government schools are two points ahead of private schools,” the Chief Minister mentioned.
The CM continued, “Many people are now withdrawing their children from private schools and enrolling them in government schools. It's not just about building magnificent buildings; the results of our government schools are also very good. Now, children in government schools are becoming doctors, engineers, and lawyers. These children have been provided a better future.”
The Delhi CM shared, “We have improved all hospitals in Delhi and opened a Mohalla Clinic in every neighbourhood. Today, inflation has risen so much that if someone falls ill at home, the cost of their medicine and treatment in private hospitals is very high. But now, you don't need to go to private hospitals. You can now get good treatment at Mohalla Clinics or government hospitals. I know many wealthy people who now go to Mohalla Clinics and government hospitals for their and their family's treatment. This has greatly benefited people and made things much more convenient.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal stated, “We have worked for health, education, and electricity. We made travel free for women on all DTC buses. These facilities have provided great convenience to people. I know many women who used to travel long distances for work, spending a lot of money. Now they have gotten a lot of convenience.”
Speaking on the ‘MukhyaMantri Mahila Samman Yojana', the Chief Minister expressed, “This year, we have made a big announcement in the budget for mothers and sisters. It is the world's largest announcement that in a few days, I will deposit ₹1000 every month into the purses of all women above 18 in Delhi. Your brother, every month, will send ₹1,000 into your purse. Many women can't believe this will really happen. It's not just going to happen, it has already happened. This scheme has been passed in the budget, now it just needs to be implemented. Elections are coming soon. So, we will implement it after the elections. Don't worry. Kejriwal does what he says. It's such a big thing that people can't even believe it could happen. But it will happen, and we will make it happen.”
CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal mentioned that on the one hand, they work for the welfare of Delhiites, and on the other hand, they haven't left any stone unturned in making Delhi's infrastructure grand. “In the past 9 years, we have built approximately 7500 kilometres of roads in Delhi. There wouldn't have been as many roads built in 75 years as have been built in the past 9 years within Delhi. The number of water and sewer lines we have laid in the past 9 years is double the number of lines laid in the past 75 years. When our government was formed in Delhi, there were about 4500 buses in Delhi. Today, the number has doubled to approximately 7500 to 8000 buses in Delhi,” he added
“We haven't left any shortage of anything; we are working on all fronts. We are working for every area and every section of Delhi. We are doing something or the other for ‘jhuggis’, colonies, unauthorized colonies, middle class, rich, poor, women, children, and youth. We are organizing pilgrimages for the elderly. You all just keep showering us with your love and blessings. We don't need anything else,” the Delhi CM concluded.
While addressing the residents of Moti Nagar and nearby areas, PWD Minister Atishi said, “Everyone is well aware that earlier, one had to spend more than half an hour to cross this stretch of the Ring Road. Today, with the inauguration of this Moti Nagar flyover, people get great relief from traffic congestion.”
She added that the figures related to this flyover state that this flyover will be used by more than 1.25 lakh vehicles in one day. As this flyover will eliminate traffic congestion, the speed of the vehicles will increase on this stretch, and it will help the people of Delhi save more than 6 lakh litres of fuel every year. This will also save travel time; 9000 man-hours will also be saved, and people will be able to spend that time with their family or on their work. This Moti Nagar flyover will also help us reduce more than 50000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.
This flyover will benefit not only the people of Delhi and the environment but will also boost the economic growth of the national capital.
She added that whenever a flyover or an elevated corridor is constructed in a city, traffic is improved, and our economic growth gets a boost. The quality of life of people has also improved. Ever since the Kejriwal Government was formed in Delhi, under the leadership of CM Arvind Kejriwal, 30 new flyovers, underpasses, and bridges have been constructed in Delhi.
“I think that Delhi has never seen such rapid development in its history as it's happening now. This includes various flyovers at Bhalswa, Burari, Mukunpur, Jagatpur, Madhuban Chowk, Signature Bridge, Shashtri Park to Seelampur flyover, Ashram Chowk underpass and flyover, Sarai Kale Khan flyover, and more. This is the 31st flyover built by the Kejriwal Government that we are inaugurating today,” said the PWD Minister.
PWD Minister further added that till 2014-15, Delhi was known for its traffic jams and was in the 4th position in terms of traffic congestion in cities the world over, but today it has come down to the 44th position. This means not only has new urban infrastructure come up, but it has also helped Delhi get away from long traffic jams. This is despite the increase in vehicles and buses.
She said, “Over the past few years, Delhi has witnessed an increase in DTC buses and electric buses, and the metro network has expanded. This has boosted the economy of Delhi. GDP has doubled, and the per capita income of people has increased by 2.5 times. This is also 2.5 times the national per capita income.”
