Chandigarh March 19, 2024-The Reading Room “Swadhayaa” was inaugurated on 18^th March, 2024 by Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in the gracious presence of Prof. Amit Chauhan, DSW, Prof. Simrat Kahlon, DSW (Women) and Prof. Naresh Kumar and other dignitaries and authorities of the University.

The newly constructed reading room has all ultra-modern facilities and amenities like fully air-conditioned, high-tech CCTV surveillance, comfortable new furniture, dedicated Wi-Fi facility, power access point on each table, uninterrupted power supply, duly-carpeted flooring, double door opening, excellent ventilation facility with latest technology wall fans, well-illuminated with natural light and many more latest facilities. Dr. JS Sehrawat, Warden, Boys’ Hostel No. 5 (Lalpat Rai Hall), apprised about these facilities to the Vice-Chancellor, DSWs, residents and the other audience present in the fully-packed Reading room. Dr. Sehrawat explained the nick-name meaning of ‘Swadhayaa’ as firstly to study own potentials and capabilities and then self-study to achieve defines career goals.

The Vice-Chancellor, in her inaugural address to the gathering, expressed her happiness that such facilities are be delivered to the university students which will help in their learning endeavours, and will also decrease pressure on the Main University library. Prof. Vig urged the students to get them strongly prepared for dealing with all sorts of circumstances or situations they may face in their professional or person lives, after completing their studies from the university. Prof. Renu stressed that Swadhayaa will help residents in their studies and also for preparation of various competitive exams. Prof. Amit Chauhan, DSW, also inaugurated the facility of Washing Room space in Boys Hostel No. 5, wherein five semi-automatic washing machines have been installed for use by the residents.
