Chandigarh, 23.11.2025 — As part of the ongoing National Library Week–cum–Children’s Day Celebrations, T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi and Cyclegiri, organised an energetic Cyclothon today, witnessing enthusiastic participation from 150 cyclists, including school children and adults.

The Cyclothon was flagged off from the Library by the Chief Guest, Sh. Subhash Bhaskar, Secretary, Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi. Cyclists rode along Jan Marg up to the Secretariat and back, completing an 8 km route filled with excitement, discipline, and community spirit. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Sunaina Bansal, appreciated the initiative and encouraged participants to embrace healthy living along with the joy of reading.

A special attraction of the event was the Cycle Decoration Competition on the theme “Reading Books.” Participants creatively decorated their bicycles with messages and designs promoting books and reading. Prizes were awarded in both the school children and adults categories.

The Library also honoured distinguished cyclists of Chandigarh for their remarkable achievements:
1. Mr. Ripan — Completed the K2K Bicycle Expedition (Kashmir to Kanyakumari) in 16 days, sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs.
2. Dr. Rakesh Mohindroo — Bicycle Mayor of Chandigarh and International Mountain Bike Commissaire.
3. Mr. Rupesh Bali — Known for cycling 100 km every day for the past three years, showcasing exceptional endurance.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Neeza Singh, Librarian, said:
“This Cyclothon aimed to promote both physical fitness and the lifelong habit of reading books. Just as cycling strengthens the body, reading strengthens the mind. The theme-based cycle decoration beautifully brought together these two powerful ideas.”

The event was organised with the support of Mrs. Neelam Bansal, Library Incharge, along with the dedicated team from Cyclegiri.
