CHANDIGARH, 01.02.26-This year budget presented by Hon’ble Finance Minister has turned the aspirations of Common Man from Me to Nation First. This year lot of things are given to Country which will benefit the common man ultimately. If we talk about Tricity,
As a growing IT destination, the Tricity benefits significantly from the new tax rules for the tech sector as Foreign Cloud Service Providers using Indian Data Centres will receive a Tax holiday until 2047 which will give boost to employment opportunities for the youth of Tricity. This will attract FDI in this sector too and our dependence on America etc will reduce.
Chandigarh and the tricity in total is a major educational center for North India. One girls' hostel will be established in (Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula) to support female students in STEM institutions. Tax Collected at Source (TCS) for pursuing education abroad under the Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS) is reduced from 5% to 2%, benefiting the large number of Tricity students moving overseas.
There are around 148500 registered MSMEs in Tricity. The industrial clusters in Chandigarh and neighboring area will see support with ₹10,000 Crore SME Growth Fund: Aimed at turning MSMEs into "Future Champions." This will provide much-needed capital to local MSME units.
While the 7 proposed corridors focus on routes like Delhi-Varanasi, the general push for high-speed rail and improved public capex (₹12.2 lakh crore) is expected to indirectly improve the Delhi-Chandigarh connectivity corridor. 4,000 new e-buses are proposed. Chandigarh, which is already a leader in electric mobility in North India, is expected to receive a portion of these for its public transport fleet.
The government will support 5 Regional Medical Hubs. Chandigarh (home to PGIMER) is a prime candidate for such an integrated healthcare complex. 10,000 guides will be trained at 20 tourist sites. Given Chandigarh’s UNESCO World Heritage status (Capitol Complex), it is likely to be included in the standardized training program in collaboration with IIMs.
New Income Tax Act, 2025: Effective from 1st April 2026, this will bring simplified rules and forms for the large salaried population (government employees and private tech workers) in the Tricity.
