Chandigarh, 17 February: The Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club and Physical Education Department of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, organised a special awareness programme titled ‘Spirit of Sports to overthrow drugs in life’ for its non-teaching staff. Held as part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the initiative aimed to sensitise participants to the harmful effects of drug abuse while emphasising the constructive role of sports in fostering a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free lifestyle.
To make the programme engaging and impactful, a friendly volleyball match was organised. In addition, a series of fun-filled fitness activities including ball picking, play with scorecards, and basketball throw were conducted to encourage active participation and highlight the importance of physical fitness. These activities not only fostered team spirit and enthusiasm but also reinforced the message that active involvement in sports can effectively steer individuals away from substance abuse. More than 80 staff members participated enthusiastically in the programme. The winners of the various competitions were awarded prizes in recognition of their spirited participation and sportsmanship.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma sensitised the participants to the physical, mental, and social consequences of drug addiction. She urged them to adopt healthy habits and serve as role models by motivating others to embrace a drug-free and active lifestyle.
