Chandigarh 19th February 2026-The Tibetan community of Potola Market at Sector 17, Chandigarh organized a ceremonial gathering today to celebrate the Tibetan New Year, Losar, and to acknowledge the recent international recognition received by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The event was hosted by the Tibetan Market Association in collaboration with the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Chandigarh.
The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, whose presence added significance to the occasion. Sh. Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, President of the Chandigarh Traders Association, and Ms. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson of CCPRC, attended as Guests of Honour. Former Tibetan Market President T R Shastri and current President Tsering Namgyal, along with office bearers and community members, were also present.
The program commenced with a ceremonial welcome for the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour, marked by traditional Tibetan gestures of respect. Speakers highlighted the cultural importance of Losar, the pride and resilience of the Tibetan community, and the journey of the Tibetan Market—originally established in Panchkula in 1995 and later relocated to Chandigarh in 2012. The gathering concluded with a community langar organized for approximately 1,000 attendees, symbolizing unity, compassion, and shared celebration.
