Chandigarh 21st February -A delegation of the National Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Force (NHRACF), Chandigarh, led by its President, Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, along with Anil Vohra (Chairman), Diljit Thukral (Vice President), and Harjit Singh (Secretary), met Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, to unveil an awareness poster aimed at educating the public and discouraging cash donations to beggars.
The initiative seeks to make Chandigarh a beggar-free city through widespread public awareness. The posters will be distributed across key public places, schools, and major markets throughout the city.
Kamaljit Singh Panchhi stated that members of the National Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Force (NHRACF) have expressed grave concern over a recent newspaper report indicating that one child goes missing every two days in Chandigarh. Highlighting the increasing number of beggars in the city, he referred to reports about organized gangs allegedly kidnapping vulnerable children and forcing them into begging, terming it a serious social and human rights issue that requires urgent and collective action.
Sh. Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, along with Anil Vohra, appealed to citizens not to give cash to beggars and instead offer food items, drinking water, or biscuit packets. They emphasized that adopting such a responsible approach could help break the chain of organized begging and prevent the exploitation of children. They further urged the public to actively support this movement in the larger interest of society and public safety. Members expressed confidence that with strong administrative support and public cooperation, this initiative would contribute significantly toward making Chandigarh a safer, more humane, and compassionate city.
