SHIMLA -14th April, 2026-Governor Kavinder Gupta called upon society to adopt five key resolutions including eradication of drug abuse, promotion of moral values, ethical conduct, social responsibility and nationalism to bring about positive transformation and build a prosperous society.

The Governor was speaking late in the evening at the historic Gaiety Theatre, Shimla where he released the special issue of the monthly magazine Matrivandana titled 'Panch Sankalp Se Samaj Parivartan', organized by Matrivandana Sansthan. On the occasion, he also released the institution’s calendar and launched the online membership application of the magazine.

Expressing concern over the growing menace of drug abuse in the state, the Governor described it as a serious challenge for society. He said that today, we all need to be concerned about the increasing illegal drug trade in the state. While we must protect our young generation from the menace of drugs, we must also work collectively to make our Devbhoomi drug-free. It is our collective responsibility to unite against this social evil and spread awareness across society.

Shri Gupta said that Himachal Pradesh is known as Devbhoomi, where every region is distinguished by its unique traditions of faith, culture and spiritual heritage. He said that this spiritual strength inspires people to remain united, preserve culture and work with dedication even in challenging geographical conditions. He urged citizens to actively contribute towards environment protection and water conservation and to adopt values such as discipline, morality, service and cooperation in their daily lives.

Congratulating the institution for the regular publication of the magazine, the Governor said that such initiatives play a vital role in disseminating positive thoughts in society. He said that Magazines and journals are not merely sources of information and knowledge, they are powerful mediums that shape social values and guide public opinion. Through meaningful articles on contemporary issues, they expand the knowledge of readers and acquaint the younger generation with the rich culture and glorious history, thereby strengthening the spirit of nationalism, values and social responsibility.

He expressed confidence that the special issue of Matrivandana would contribute significantly towards promoting values such as determination, discipline, morality, service and cooperation in society and inspire people to work collectively for social progress.

Earlier, the Governor honoured former founding editor of the magazine and noted Sanskrit scholar Dr. Dayanand Sharma for his outstanding services. Editor of the magazine Dr. Karam Singh shared detailed insights into the history and publication journey of the magazine.

On the occasion, guest speaker and member of the All India Prachar Team Prem Kumar highlighted the timeless nature of Indian culture and traced the evolution of the Matrivandana magazine. He stated that today the magazine reaches more than 11 thousand villages, including remote areas of the State, connecting diverse sections of society.

Founder member of Sai Eternal Foundation Raj Kumar Verma and President of Matrivandana Sansthan Dr. Umesh Maudgil and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
