Chandigarh Administration Celebrated ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ with Spiritual and Cultural Programmes
Event Marked 75 Years of Reopening of Historic Somnath Temple
Chandigarh, May 11:The Department of Culture, Chandigarh Administration, celebrated ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ as part of the nationwide commemorative programmes initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, marking the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of the rebuilt Somnath Temple.
A State-level programme was organized at Tagore Theatre, where more than 300 participants witnessed the live telecast from the sacred temple. During the live broadcast, Narendra Modi addressed the gathering and described the occasion as a milestone in Bharat’s civilisational journey. He stated that the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav reflected devotion and spiritual energy across the country. Present on the occasion were Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Secretary, Culture, along with other officials of the Chandigarh Administration.
As part of the celebrations in Chandigarh, a Kalash Yatra was also taken out from Pracheen Shri Kheda Shiv Mandir to Shri Sanatan Dharam Mandir. A large number of devotees participated enthusiastically in the procession. Heritage buildings and temples across the city were illuminated to mark the occasion. The programme highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage and promoted the spirit of faith, devotion, and national pride.

Chief Electoral Officer, Chandigarh Reviews Preparedness for Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls
Chandigarh, May 11: A meeting to review the preparedness for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in U.T. Chandigarh was chaired by the Chief Electoral Officer, U.T. Chandigarh,
Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS. The meeting was attended by the Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Nodal Officers and other concerned officials.
At the outset, the Chief Electoral Officer emphasized the importance of the Special Intensive Revision in ensuring accurate, updated and error-free electoral rolls. She directed all concerned officers to undertake the revision exercise strictly in accordance with the guidelines and instructions issued by the Election Commission of India.
It was informed during the meeting that nearly 70% of electors have already been mapped with the previous SIR during the pre-revision phase. The Chief Electoral Officer directed all AEROs to take necessary measures to further improve the mapping percentage and ensure maximum coverage.
AEROs were instructed to conduct periodic meetings with BLOs for effective monitoring, timely resolution of issues and to ensure transparency, coordination and smooth conduct of the revision process.
The Nodal Officer (Training) was directed to organise comprehensive training programmes for all officials associated with the SIR process to ensure uniformity and effective implementation of revision activities across the Union Territory.
Emphasising the importance of voter awareness, the Chief Electoral Officer directed that SVEEP activities be conducted at the micro level so that all eligible residents are adequately informed about the mapping process and other revision-related activities. She further directed AEROs to focus on uncovered and low-coverage areas through targeted outreach and house-to-house verification, particularly in newly developed habitation areas. Special emphasis was laid on the inclusion of left-out voters, especially women, youth, senior citizens, migrant families and Persons with Disabilities (PwD). The Chief Electoral Officer also directed that public awareness activities be intensified through announcements, local meetings, voter outreach drives and camps at accessible public locations. The Nodal Officer, Media and Social Media, was instructed to disseminate information regarding the Special Intensive Revision through various media platforms and official social media handles, in coordination with BLOs, Supervisors and local stakeholders.
Appealing to the residents of U.T. Chandigarh, the Chief Electoral Officer urged all electors to verify their details from the previous SIR and share the same with their respective Booth Level Officers for mapping purposes.
