Chandigarh, July 14:- Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the safety, dignity and welfare of frontline sanitation workers, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today celebrated NAMASTE Day at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38. The event witnessed the distribution of nearly 800 safety kits among sanitation workers under the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) Scheme, reinforcing the Corporation's vision of ensuring safe and mechanised sanitation practices.
The programme was graced by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, as the Chief Guest, while Senior Deputy Mayor Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh attended as the Guest of Honour. The event was also attended by Joint Commissioner Sh. Balbir Raj Singh, Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, Medical Officer of Health (MOH), councillors, senior officers and a large gathering of Safai Karamcharis.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar lauded the tireless dedication of sanitation workers in keeping Chandigarh clean and healthy. He emphasized that the Municipal Corporation remains committed to safeguarding their well-being by promoting mechanised sanitation and ensuring the availability of modern safety equipment under the Government of India's NAMASTE Scheme.
Senior Deputy Mayor Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh hailed the sanitation workers as the backbone of Chandigarh's cleanliness and public health system. He said their selfless service deserves the highest respect and assured that the Corporation will continue to strengthen initiatives aimed at providing a safer, more secure and dignified working environment.
As part of the programme, around 800 safety kits were distributed to sanitation workers out of the 926 workers enrolled under the scheme. The initiative aims to enhance workplace safety by equipping frontline workers with essential protective gear while promoting safe sanitation practices.
