Chandigarh, September 27, 2026:The Bharatiya Janata Party Chandigarh Pradesh organized a press conference at its state office ‘Kamalam’, Sector 33, Chandigarh, to expose the misinformation and allegations being spread by the Congress and the INDI Alliance regarding the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, State Media In-charge Ravi Rawat, Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dharinder Tayal, Spokesperson Gurpreet Dhillon, Rahul Sharma and Neha Arora were present at the press conference.

State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra said that the Congress and the INDI Alliance are attempting to spread lies and confusion among the people and create distrust towards constitutional institutions. He said that the Election Commission is an independent constitutional institution and questioning its impartiality without presenting concrete facts is not appropriate for a democratic system.

He said that the confusion being created by the opposition regarding the letter written to the Cabinet Secretary has been completely clarified after the Election Commission’s explanation. The letter was neither related to any electoral policy nor to the SIR process, but was an internal matter concerning the administrative functioning of an officer. Linking it with the policy-making process of the Election Commission amounts to presenting facts out of context.

Attempt to Mislead People Over Form-6

Mr. Malhotra said that the opposition is also trying to create confusion regarding Form-6. There is a prescribed procedure through Form-6 for eligible citizens to be included in the electoral roll, and during the SIR process as well, eligible citizens are being given an opportunity to apply as per the rules. The door-to-door outreach and application collection process through BLOs is aimed at ensuring the democratic participation of every eligible citizen.

He said that before making allegations against any constitutional institution, the opposition should first place official facts and clarifications before the public.

Questioning Constitutional Institutions Has Been Congress’s Old Political Approach

The BJP State President said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has, from time to time, raised questions regarding the functioning of the Election Commission, judiciary and institutions such as the CAG. Referring to the 2019 Rafale case, he said that after the remark “Chowkidar Chor Hai” was presented in connection with the Supreme Court’s observations, Rahul Gandhi had to tender an unconditional apology before the court.

He also referred to statements made by Congress leaders regarding the surgical strike, Balakot air strike and the Tawang episode, and said that political parties must speak responsibly and on the basis of facts on sensitive matters related to national security and constitutional institutions.

Mr. Malhotra said, “Political opposition has its place, but compromising the credibility of democratic institutions cannot be accepted. The Congress and the INDI Alliance should abandon the politics of lies, misinformation and incomplete information and present their views before the people on the basis of facts.”

He said that for strengthening democracy, all political parties must respect the dignity of the Election Commission, judiciary and other constitutional institutions, as well as the trust of the people.

On this occasion, party Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dharinder Tayal said that the Supreme Court has already upheld the SIR process, including Form-6, and that by staging protests, the Congress is directly challenging the understanding of the country’s highest court.

He said that the Congress’s double standards have been completely exposed today. In the neighbouring state of Himachal Pradesh, when the Congress wins elections, its leaders praise the ECI, EVMs and electoral rolls, but when the people reject them in other elections, the same institutions come under attack.
