CHANDIGARH,14.01.24-The 8th Armed Forces Veterans Day took place at the Rani Lakshmi Bai Mahila Bhavan, Sector-38, Chandigarh, organized by the Zila Sainik Welfare Office, U.T. Chandigarh Administration. Chief Guest Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor Punjab and Administrator U.T., Chandigarh, honored the Gallantry Awardees of Chandigarh.
Celebrated annually on January 14, Armed Forces Veterans Day marks the retirement of our First Indian Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, in 1953, who led Indian forces to victory in the 1947 war.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh, who expressed gratitude to Veterans for their sacrifices. Sh. Nitin Yadav, Adviser to the Administrator-cum-Home Secretary UT Chandigarh, shared information about welfare schemes, encouraging Veterans to contribute suggestions for their well-being.
Addressing the audience, Chief Guest Sh. Purohit praised the Indian Army's illustrious history, emphasizing the importance of discipline. He acknowledged the sacrifices of soldiers' families and urged Veterans to continue serving the nation and humanity beyond retirement. Stressing on health, he suggested Veterans play a role model for the younger generation.
Smt Palika Arora, Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, extended thanks and announced a Grievances Redressal Camp on Jan 15, 2024, providing armed forces personnel and veterans an opportunity to address issues with the Chandigarh Administration. The Grievances Redressal Meeting is scheduled for Feb 14, 2024.
