Chandigarh, 21 January, 2026:2nd UT/State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC) Meeting Held Under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary UT Chandigarh

The 2nd UT/State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC) meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. H Rajesh Prasad, Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh, at the Chandigarh Secretariat, Sector-9, Chandigarh.

The meeting focused on preparations for the Census of India 2027, reviewing progress on various pre-census activities, training schedules, and budgetary arrangements.

The meeting was convened by Director of Census Operations, UT Chandigarh, along with all the members of SLCCC including Local Government, Revenue, Chief Architect, Urban Planning, Finance and Education.

Key decisions taken during the meeting include:
Finalization of Census Dates: It was decided that the Phase-I (Houselisting Operations) will be conducted from 1st May 2026 to 30th May 2026 (30 days), with a 15-day self-enumeration period from 16th April to 30th April 2026. These dates shall be notified in the official Gazette of the UT Chandigarh at the earliest.
Preparation for Digital Census: In order to orient and sensitize the Principal Census Officer (Deputy Commissioner) and other senior officers including Charge Officers, a one-day conference will be conducted on 25th February 2026 by the Directorate of Census Operations, UT Chandigarh.
Pre-Census Activities: The successful completion of pre-test activities across 02 locations (Sarangpur and Sector 22, Chandigarh) was reviewed along with preparations which are underway for the main Census.
Training Schedule: A detailed training schedule involving master trainers and field trainers was deliberated and approved and it was decided to commence the training sessions by 3rd week of February 2026.
Budget and Infrastructure: The availability of budget and approved financial norms was reviewed and it was decided to initiate the hiring of technical staff and procurement of IT infrastructure in Chandigarh at the earliest.

Emphasising the timely completion of all preparatory activities, the Chief Secretary directed all concerned officers and departments to ensure close coordination and cooperation for the smooth and efficient conduct of Census-related work in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
