Chandigarh, March 27, 2026:The Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department, Chandigarh Administration has launched a free complimentary consultation service for livestock farmers in Chandigarh via Telemedicine. Sh. Pardeep Kumar, Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Chandigarh Administration, inaugurated this service today.

During the launch of the telemedicine service, the Secretary of Animal Husbandry stated that acknowledging the significance of Telemedicine in enhancing livestock health and safety in alignment with the One Nation One Health (ONOH) initiative, the Government of India, under the guidance of NITI Aayog, has implemented this service nationwide. Efforts have been made in Chandigarh towards this goal, and today mark the commencement of this service for the livestock farmers in Chandigarh. He further mentioned that the Government of India introduced the National Digital Health Mission (NDLM) on August 15, 2021, aimed at establishing an integrated healthcare system that connects practitioners with livestock farmers digitally, providing access to real-time health records.
Sh. Naveen, Director, Animal Husbandry indicated that with introduction of this facility the livestock owners are not required to transport their animals for situations where the animal patients do not need to be physically present at the veterinary facility. Such situations include post-surgery follow-ups, routine consultations, monitoring, and guidance on health calendars etc. This initiative aims to ensure the safety of animals, their keepers, and veterinary health workers from contagious zoonotic diseases, thereby mitigating the risk of transmission from animals to humans.

Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry elaborated on this and informed that the telemedicine service will be available free of charge by calling the toll-free number 1800-180-2206, exclusively after the Veterinary Centers have closed, specifically from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, excluding Sundays. He encouraged the livestock farmers of Chandigarh to take full advantage of this service as much as possible
