Chandigarh, March 27, 2026:As many as 804 engineering graduates of University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, were conferred degrees during the Degree Award Ceremony 2026 held at the PU Convention Centre.

Marking one of the first major academic events at the newly operational venue, the ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig, while the Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh, H. Rajesh Prasad, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The graduating students comprised 185 from Computer Science Engineering, 101 from Information Technology, 190 from Electronics & Communication Engineering, 107 from Mechanical Engineering, 147 from Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and 74 from Biotechnology.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the felicitation of distinguished alumni, including Naman Agarwal, Akhil Phirani, Vikram Singh Bajwa, Prerna Singh, and Dharam Pal Chaudhary, among others. Medals and academic honours were also presented to meritorious students. The ceremony culminated in the formal conferring of degrees to the graduating batches of 2024 and 2025, along with Distinguished Alumnus Awards recognising excellence and professional achievements.

The ceremony commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the presence of the Dean of University Instruction, Prof. Yojna Rawat, Registrar, Prof. Y.P. Verma, Controller of Examination, Prof. Jagat Bhushan, and Director UIET, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh.

Addressing the gathering, Shri H. Rajesh Prasad underscored the pivotal role of engineers in nation-building and described them as the “cream of the cream.” He exhorted the students to pursue lifelong learning, stating that growth ceases the moment learning stops. He further emphasised the need to expand knowledge beyond technical domains and cultivate a deeper understanding of society, governance, and ethics. He lauded Panjab University for its academic excellence and global recognition, and urged students to remain grateful to their parents and teachers throughout their journey.

In her address, Prof. Renu Vig highlighted the remarkable growth of UIET since its establishment in 2002. From four initial departments, the institute has expanded to six undergraduate programmes along with multiple postgraduate courses, catering to a student strength of around 2,500. She emphasised the importance of continuous learning in a rapidly evolving technological landscape and encouraged students to maintain a balance between professional aspirations and personal well-being while contributing responsibly to society.

Remarks were also shared by the Director, UIET, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh, and the Registrar, Prof. Yajvendar Pal Verma, who congratulated the graduating students and प्रेरित them to uphold the values and standards of excellence imparted by the institution.

The ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and parents, marking a significant academic milestone for UIET and Panjab University. The event was meticulously organised, ensuring a seamless and dignified experience for all attendees.
