Chandigarh, 28th January 2025: In a significant step towards ensuring safer roads, the Chandigarh Traffic Police organized traffic awareness sessions at various places as part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month-2025. The initiative was conducted under the leadership of Sh. Surendra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, and Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, SSP/Security & Traffic, with the supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DSP/Road Safety & Development. These campaigns aimed to promote responsible driving practices among the residents of the Chandigarh.
An awareness programme was held at Children Traffic Park for GMH School, Sector-28, Chandigarh for students and teacher. Dr. Parvesh Sharma, along with other officials from the Chandigarh Traffic Police, engaged over 40 students & teachers. During these sessions, a pledge on road safety was administered, and a road safety quiz was held, with trophies awarded to the top-performing students.
Subsequently, a traffic awareness programme was also conducted by Chandigarh Traffic Police in collaboration with Rotary Club Chandigarh Uptown, for NSS Volunteers at Government High School, Sector 32-D, Chandigarh. About 150 participants were educated on different aspects of road safety. The awareness team consisting HC Alkesh, HC Jagroop Singh, Sr. Ct. Ishwar, Ct. Manjit, & HGV Jagdamba Shukla highlighted the impact of road accidents on individuals and communities. The session focused on essential traffic rules, parking practices, and the importance of adhering to road safety protocols, wearing BIS standard ISI Helmet, including giving way to ambulances and other emergency vehicles. The significance of road signs and the importance of following them properly were explained. Information was shared about the minimum age requirements for obtaining licenses for two-wheelers & four-wheelers and penalties for underage driving were explained. A road safety pledge was also administered among the participants.
In addition to above, a road safety session was also held for NSS students at Post Graduate Government College Sector-46, Chandigarh. Dr. Parvesh Sharma, along with other officials from the Chandigarh Traffic Police, engaged with over 150 NSS students, teachers and other staff. The awareness initiative was further strengthened through support of Dr. Sidharth Kumar & Dr. G C. Sethi NSS coordinator, Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Sehgal, Principal, & Prof. Dr. Sneh Vice Principal, Harshinder Sharma. A short video was played to create awareness among the students. There was an interactive session held between the students and the officials from traffic police. Two students Shrianshika Saini and Harpreet Singh of the college were awarded for being highly aware of the traffic rules. NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, Dr. Kulvinder Brar and Ms. Pooja Gupta & Members of the Society, Ms. Manisha, Ms. Vandana (BCA), faculty members, students were part of the programme.
The awareness team also educated 375 people from general public at Market & Residential area of Sector 20 & 21 respectively in the evening. It highlighted essential road safety rules, including parking the vehicles in designated areas, giving way to emergency vehicles, maintaining lane discipline, and switching off engines at red lights to reduce pollution. A Road Safety Exhibition Van was set up to showcase real-life examples of road safety through videos and displays.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police urges all citizens to adhere to traffic rules and regulations for their own safety and that of others, ultimately contributing to safer roads and fewer traffic-related fatalities.
