Chandigarh, Sep 14: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria along with his wife Smt. Anita Kataria, planted the saplings of 'Rudraksha' in campus of the Punjab Raj Bhawan. The officials of the Punjab Raj Bhavan also planted various saplings of fruit bearing trees on the occasion.
Speaking on the sidelines of the function, the Punjab Governor said that this plantation drive is being carried out as a part of the plantation campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (one tree for mother) launched by the Government of India under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi.
The Governor further said that the whole world is facing various challenges of climate change due to global warming. He said that due to this weather patterns and balance of nature is being disturbed. This also poses many risks to human beings and other forms of life on the earth.
He said that the way the world is developing, today there is an atmosphere of concern for environmental protection not only in India but all over the world. He said that the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign launched by Prime Minister Modi is the perfect answer to the problem of climate change.
The Governor further appealed to the people of Punjab and UT Chandigarh to come forward and contribute in this noble cause to plant trees to safeguard our future generations. He added that people should not only plant trees but take care of them till they grow up.
On this occasion, Mr. K. Siva Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary to Governor Punjab, other officers and staff of Punjab Raj Bhavan took part in this initiative.
