CHANDIGARH, 27.12.24-The Enactus team of Panjab University organized a transformative workshop on menstrual health and hygiene in New Indira Colony, Manimajra, one of the most densely populated areas on the outskirts of Chandigarh. The initiative aimed to educate local women and young girls on the importance of menstrual health, provide access to eco-friendly menstrual hygiene products and create a safe space for open discussion on this often-overlooked topic, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of Enactus.
Dr. Rajni Lamba, CEO of The Rural Environmental Enterprises Development Society (The REEDS) and the key resource person for the workshop, shared her insights during the event. She said that this workshop goes beyond offering education and products. It is about creating awareness, breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and ensuring that women and girls have access to the resources they need to maintain good health and dignity.
The workshop witnessed an impressive turnout of women and young girls, many of whom face significant barriers to menstrual health education and proper hygiene due to socio-economic challenges. Muskan Sihag, President of the Enactus team, highlighted that participants often struggle to obtain accurate information and essential menstrual hygiene products, with these challenges further intensified by socio-economic hardships and cultural taboos. As part of the team’s ongoing efforts under Project UDAY, cloth-based, eco-friendly sanitary napkins were distributed to attendees during the workshop, as well as door-to-door in the colony, sponsored by Versatile Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana.
The event received an overwhelming response, fostering a supportive environment that exemplified the mission of Enactus, Panjab University. The society is in dire need of such events to manifest and grow as a compassionate, well-informed community, conveyed Prof. Amit Chauhan, Dean Student Welfare, Panjab University.
