CHANDIGARH, 04.02.25-The Post Graduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, under the PM-USHA Scheme (RUSA), organized an insightful lecture on 'Media Ethics and Law Vis-à-Vis Government and Private Sector'.

Mr. Sanjiv Dosajh, a retired from the Indian Broadcasting Programme Service and a consultant for Strategic Initiatives at Chitkara University, was the distinguished speaker on the occasion. Mr Ashutosh Sharma, Dean of Arts gave a warm and green welcome to the esteemed resource person. In his address, Mr. Dosajh emphasized the critical role of ethical journalism in today’s media landscape. "Conflicting loyalties often influence the decisions of media practitioners", he noted. Quoting an example from a web series, he mentioned the importance of pretesting content that could be harmful to society and exercising restraint. Mr. Dosajh also talked about the essential laws that impact media practice. "Online platforms proliferate misleading information affecting public perception." He advised that there is a need to increase media accountability by using present-day technology.

The Department also released its annual newsletter 'Expressions' and newspaper 'Mediatainment' at the event.
Dr. Priya Chadha, Head of the Department proposed the vote of thanks and highlighted the significance of the discussion in the current media climate. “With rapid technological advancements and evolving media laws, it is crucial for students to be well-versed in ethical reporting. Mr. Dosajh’s vast experience provided invaluable insights,” she remarked. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty.
