Chandigarh, September 16 – Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Pankaj Agarwal today disclosed that a total of 2,03,54,350 voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the upcoming General Election 2024 for the 15th Haryana Legislative Assembly, scheduled for October 5. To facilitate the voting process, 20,629 polling booths have been established across the state.

Women enrolled more than men as new voters

Mr. Agarwal said that following the final publication of the voter list on August 27, Form-6 submissions were accepted until September 2, 2024. This led to the addition of 1,29,392 new voters to the list, comprising 64,031 men, 65,352 women, and 9 third-gender individuals. Consequently, the total number of registered voters in the state now stands at 2,03,54,350.

There are 8,821 voters above 100 years of age in the state

The Chief Electoral Officer provided detailed demographics of the voter base, stating that out of the total 2,03,54,350 voters, there are 1,07,75,957 men, 95,77,926 women, and 467 third-gender voters. Among these, there are 5,24,514 young voters aged 18 to 19, 1,49,142 persons with disabilities voters, and 2,31,093 voters aged 85 years or above. Remarkably, there are 8,821 voters above the age of 100, along with 1,09,217 service voters.

Mr. Agarwal informed that the voter lists are available on the department's website ceoharyana.gov.in Apart from this, voters can check their name in the voter list by calling the voter helpline number - 1950. It is mandatory to be listed in the voters list for casting the vote in the election.

1221 out of 1559 filed nominations were found valid after scrutiny

Out of 1221 candidates 190 candidates withdrew nominations

Chandigarh, September 16 - Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Pankaj Agarwal said that a total of 1,559 candidates have submitted 1,746 nomination papers for the upcoming General Elections, scheduled for October 5, across all 90 seats of the Haryana Assembly Elections. After scrutiny, 1,221 nominations were found valid, while the candidatures of 338 were rejected.

Mr. Pankaj Agarwal informed that according to the election schedule issued by the Election Commission of India for the 2024 State Assembly elections, candidates were allowed to file their nomination papers between September 5 to 12. The scrutiny of the nominations took place on September 13, with the deadline for candidates to withdraw their nominations until September 16, 2024. Till September 16, a total of 190 candidates withdrew their nominations. Now there are 1031 candidates going to contest assembly elections, he added. He also informed that in Haryana Assembly General Elections-2014, 1351 candidates had contested while 1169 candidates contested in 2019 Assembly elections.

190 candidates have withdrawn their nominations

While divulging on district wise details, he said that 5 candidates from Panchkula, 4 from Ambala, 5 from Yamunanagar, 15 from Kurukshetra, 15 from Kaithal, 10 from Karnal, 6 from Panipat, 7 from Sonipat, 13 from Jind, 6 from Fatehabad, 12 from Sirsa, 23 from Hisar, 3 from Dadri, 13 from Bhiwani, 4 from Rohtak, 9 from Jhajjar, 9 from Mahendragarh, 3 from Rewari, 15 from Gurugram, 2 from Nuh, 4 from Palwal, and 7 from Faridabad district have withdrawn their nominations.

1031 candidates to contest State Assembly Elections

The Chief Electoral Officer said that after the completion of scrutiny and the withdrawal of nominations across all 22 districts, a total of 1,031 candidates are going to contest the upcoming assembly elections. Providing a district-wise details, he said that 17 candidates are contesting from Panchkula, 39 from Ambala, 40 from Yamunanagar, 43 from Kurukshetra, 53 from Kaithal, 55 from Karnal, 36 from Panipat, 65 from Sonipat, 72 from Jind, 40 from Fatehabad, 54 from Sirsa, 89 from Hisar, 33 from Dadri, 56 from Bhiwani, 56 from Rohtak, 42 from Jhajjar, 37 from Mahendragarh, 39 from Rewari, 47 from Gurugram, 21 from Nuh, 33 from Palwal, and 64 candidates are contesting from Faridabad district.

Polling in 90 assembly constituencies on October 5 from 7 am to 6 pm

Mr. Pankaj Agarwal further informed that the final list of candidates contesting the 90 assembly constituencies has been released, with election symbols allotted by the respective Returning Officers. Voting will take place on October 5, 2024, from 7 AM to 6 PM, while the counting of votes will occur on October 8, 2024, with the election results being declared on the same day, said Mr. Agarwal.
