Chandigarh, October 17:- Giving big respite to the Safaikarmacharis working in the toilets given on MoU to various Market Welfare Associations and Resident Welfare Associations, the committee of councilors & officers of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided that they will be paid as per the wages of DC, UT, Chandigarh rates and recommended the terms and conditions to the General House for final decision in this regard.
The meeting of committee was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, city Mayor and attended by other member councilors namely Sh. Dalip Sharma, Sh. Yogesh Dhingra, Sh. Jasbir Singh Bunty, Smt. Anju Katyal, Sh. Jasbir Singh Laddi, Smt. Darshna, Dr. Naresh Panchal and Superintending Engineer (PH) Sh. Harjeet Singh alongwith Executive Engineer MCPH Sh. Rajinder Singh and Sh. Yogesh Aggarwal.
In the meeting Sh. Ashok Beniwal, president, toilet cleaning workers union put forward the union’s demands and consensus on the salary related issues was reached after detailed discussion.
During the meeting the committee members discussed the Memorandum of Understanding for Operation and Maintenance of Public and Community Toilet Blocks in various Markets, Parks and Green Belts in various Sectors, Villages and Colonies in Chandigarh.
City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar informed that the workers demanded to enhance their salaries as per the DC, UT rates and it was discussed by the committee members at large and decided to pay the wages as per the DC, UT, Chandigarh rates to the workers. He said that the recommendations of the committee would be brought up in the ensuing General House meeting of the civic body and it will be passed after the consent of all the councilors.
The Mayor further said that the Agenda was placed in the 339th Meeting held on 26.09.2024 to finalize the terms & conditions of the MoU for Operation and Maintenance of Public & Community Toilet blocks in various Markets, Parks/Green Belts in various Sectors, Villages and Colonies in Chandigarh which was deferred and it was decided that a Committee of Councilors/ Officers be formed.
Accordingly, a Committee of Councilors/Officers has been constituted and the 1st meeting of Committee Members was held on 10th October and in the Meeting the Committee Members directed to make certain amendments of terms & conditions in the Draft MoU alongwith AOR be prepared as per DC UT rates, Chd and put up in the next meeting.
He said that in today’s meeting the Committee Members decided that the Safalkaramchari(s) working in the Toilets given on MoU to various Market Welfare Association (MWA) and Residence Welfare Association (RWA) will be paid as per the wages of DC, UT Rates. The terms & conditions and AORs of Draft MoU have been finalized in the Meeting and recommended to be placed in the General House of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh for approval.
After the meeting the Mayor also offered juice to the striking safaikarmacharis to end their strike.
