CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR, September 14:In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to destroy the organised criminal networks in the state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested seven operatives of the notorious Ankush Bhaya organised criminal gang, including the lynchpin Ankush Sabharwal alias Bhaya, exposing links to major USA-based criminal syndicates including Goldy Brar, Vikram Brar and Ravi Balachoria, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday.

Other six members arrested have been identified as Pankaj Sabharwal alias Panku of Mohalla Rishi Nagar in Nakodar; Vishal Sabharwal alias Bhadthu of Rishi Nagar in Nakodar; Harmanpreet Singh alias Harman of Mohalla Rounta in Nakodar; Jaskaran Singh Purewal alias Karan alias Jassa of Mohalla Gons in Nakodar; Ariyan Singh of village Nawajipur in Shahkot; and Rupesh Kumar of Rishi Nagar in Nakodar. Police have also nominated two more gang members identified as Karan Sabharwal alias Kannu of Rishi Nagar in Nakodar and Dalbir Singh alias Harman alias Bhola alias Langda of Mohalla Gons in Nakodar in the case, while, another member identified as Dibu of Hoshiarpur is also wanted in connection with the case.

Police teams have also recovered four pistols— including two .30 bore pistols, one .32 bore pistol and one .315 bore country-made pistol along with seven live cartridges and 1000 Alprazolam tablets from their possession, besides, impounding a white Venue car (PB-08-EZ-2018), on which they were travelling. 2q

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that in a related development, Police teams have also arrested a police constable posted at Sadar Nakodar Police Station identified as Aryan Singh Shipai for conniving with the gang and leaking sensitive information to the gang. Aryan had been absent from duty for approximately 1.5 months and was involved in revealing secret details of police operations and providing logistics support to the gangsters, he added.

He said that preliminary investigation has also found that kingpin Ankush Bhaya was in frequent touch with foreign based organised criminal Lovepreet Singh alias Ladi and jailed gangster Ravi Balachoria.

The DGP said that with the arrest of members of this module Jalandhar Rural Police has successfully averted possible attacks on rival criminals in Hoshiarpur, Mehatpur and Nakodar and a bank robbery conspired by the gang members. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle their broader network, both locally and internationally, he said.

Sharing operation details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar Rural Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, while addressing a press conference said that based on a credible tip-off, police teams set up a checkpoint near Malhri village, GT Road, Nakodar City, where they intercepted a white Venue car. During checking, police teams found occupants heavily armed and in possession of 1000 Alprazolam intoxicant tablets, he added.

He said that the entire operation was led by SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Batth with two police teams headed by Incharge CIA Staff Pushap Bali and SHO City Police Station Sanjeev Kapoor, under the supervision of DSP Investigation, Lakhvir Singh.

The SSP said that on the disclosure of arrested persons, police teams have also arrested the Venue car owner, identified as Rupesh, who also provided logistical support to the gang, including safe houses and weapon storage.

He said that the arrested gang members have a history of serious criminal activities across several districts and were involved in crimes including drug trafficking, organised crime and violent activities.

Terming the arrest of these criminals as a significant victory in breaking the backbone of these violent gangs, SSP Khakh said, “We will ensure that all those involved in illegal activities, no matter how well connected, will be brought to justice.”

In this regard, a case FIR has been registered under sections Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act at Nakodar City Police Station and following latest arrests and recovery, additional charges have been added under sections 111 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25.6, 25.7, 25.8 and 25(1B)a of the Arms Act and Sections 22(C), 29, and 25 of the NDPS Act.

ON PUNJAB GOVERNMENT'S REASSURANCE PCMSA DOCTORS AGREE TO CALL OFF THEIR STRIKE

Chandigarh, September 14:Following the assurance from Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh, the state government doctors have called off their strike with immediate effect on Saturday.

Dr Balbir Singh, along with Principal Secretary Finance Ajoy Kumar Sinha and Secretary Health Kumar Rahul, on Saturday chaired an emergency meeting with a delegation of PCMS Association led by the state president Dr Akhil Sarin and appealed the doctors to call off the strike as patients are facing hardships due to the ongoing strike by the doctors, besides assuring that there is no paucity of funds for the department despite the roadblocks by the central government. Therefore, there will not be any hindrance in implementing the approved demands of the PCMSA.

Patient welfare is the foremost objective of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government and no patient should suffer due to lack of treatment, he added.

The Health Minister informed that although the cabinet sub-committee has already agreed to the demands of the doctors on strike this Wednesday but still he reassures that their demands such as restoration of Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) will be implemented soon.

Delibrating on other demands of the PCMSA, Dr Balbir Singh said that he himself is of the opinion that there is stagnation in the career of a doctor, their first promotion is mostly at the age of fifty years and he is working to increase the posts of SMOs so that such stagnation can be minimised. The government has sanctioned to recruit 1390 doctors out of which 400 vacancies have already been advertised. Funds for the security arrangements in hospitals have already been released, CCTVs in all the government health facilities are being installed.

Dr Balbir Singh said that the government is committed to the demands of the PCMSA as most of their demands have been approved and will be implemented in a time bound manner. The modalities are being finalised and the process will be started by next week, he added.

During the meeting the state president of the PCMSA Dr Akhil Sarin expressed gratitude to the Health Minister for reassurance on their demands and announced to call off their strike from immediate effect and as a sympathetic gesture towards the patients the PCMSA decided to extend the OPD timing by two hours to compensate for the inconvenience faced by the patients due to the strike.

Secretary Finance Diprava Lakra, Director Health and Family Welfare Dr Hitinder Kaur, Director Medical Education and Research Dr Avnish Kumar and other senior officers of the state government were also present in the meeting.

National Lok Adalat held across Punjab: Over 3.76 lakh cases taken up by 366 benches

Lok Adalat Concept: A Way Forward Towards Amicable Settlement of Disputes

Chandigarh, September 14-In an effort to reduce the backlog of pending litigation and to settle maximum number of cases in an amicable way, the Punjab State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority has organized National Lok Adalat on September 14, 2024 throughout the State of Punjab. This mega event, under the able guidance of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman of the State Authority aimed to resolve disputes effectively across the State of Punjab.

During this National Lok Adalat, 366 Lok Adalat benches were constituted in 22 districts in which over 3,76,000 cases were taken up for settlement. National Lok Adalat stands as one of the key efforts by the Legal Services Authorities to not only reduce the pending litigation burden but also to promote pre-litigative settlements. The process facilitates amicable resolutions offering a faster and cost- effective alternative to traditional litigation.

The benefits of Lok Adalats are manifold. It saves the time and reduces the financial burden on the litigants as in the cases in which settlement is arrived, the court fee is refunded. Moreover, since the cases are resolved with the consent of both the parties, there is no option for filing an appeal making the decision final and binding. Ultimately, both the parties benefit from win-win situation as neither side experience a loss.

In addition to this, the Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority apprised that Free Legal Aid Helpline Number 15100 is functional throughout the state of Punjab and this facility is available round the clock to the general public. This service aims to extend Free Legal assistance to the public. The learned Member Secretary further apprised that Punjab State Legal Services Authority is dedicated in making every effort to resolve as many disputes as possible through Lok Adalats.
