Chairperson Raj Lali Gill Encourages Students to Stand up against Drug Abuse and Support Equality

Chandigarh, October 30:In a motivational speech at the Youth Festival at Doaba Group of Colleges, Mrs. Raj Lali Gill, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Commission, urged students and faculty to create a society that respects women, promotes equality, and fights against drug abuse. She emphasized the importance of good character in creating a safe and respectful community.

Mrs. Gill explained the work of the Punjab Women Commission, highlighting its role in protecting and advancing the rights of women and girls in Punjab. She encouraged students to be aware and take responsibility, reminding them that everyone plays a part in making their communities better. She urged young people to say no to drugs and support each other’s growth.

"Our youth have the power to shape a society that respects and protects everyone," said Mrs. Gill. "With strong values and a dedication to fairness, we can create an environment that values the safety and dignity of women and girls. Let’s work together to end all forms of abuse and discrimination."

She further added, "The utmost protection of women is our shared responsibility. We must ensure that women feel safe, respected, and supported in every part of society." She motivated students to work toward a progressive, inclusive and drug-free Punjab.

Punjab launches helpline numbers to report illegal tagging of products with DAP & other fertilisers

* Farmers can call on 1100 or send a WhatsApp message on +91-98555-01076 to lodge complaint against pesticide dealers engaged in corrupt practices, says Agriculture Minister

Chandigarh, October 30:The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched helpline numbers for the state farmers to report any pesticide dealers who tag other products with di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) or other fertilisers. Farmers can also report issues such as excessive pricing, illegal hoarding, or black marketing of DAP fertiliser.

Sharing the details, Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian informed that farmers can call the helpline number 1100 or send a WhatsApp message to the contact number +91-98555-01076 to lodge complaints against pesticide dealers engaged in corrupt practices.

Reiterating the commitment of the state government for welfare of the farmers, he stated that tagging other unnecessary chemicals with fertilisers or selling fertilisers at inflated prices, or engaging in the black market of fertilisers a legal offence and the strict action will be taken under the provisions of the Fertilizer Control Order, 1985, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, who found indulged in this malpractice.

Meanwhile, the cabinet minister also urged the farmers to follow the suggestion of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) experts regarding use of alternative fertilisers including NPK (12:32:16), Triple Super Phosphate (TSP), and Single Super Phosphate (SSP), which can be used as alternate sources of Phosphorus.

Chandigarh, October 30-On the eve of the festival of lights - Diwali, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and his wife Gurpreet Kaur Sandhwan paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Punjab Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria. Speaker Sandhwan and Gurpreet Kaur were warmly welcomed by Mr. Kataria and Mrs. Anita Kataria at the Governor's House.

During the conversation, Speaker Sandhwan said that although the auspicious day of Diwali is celebrated warmly by people of all religions as it is a common festival, for the last few years there has been an awareness among people about celebrating a pollution-free Diwali, due to which people are using green crackers. The trend of planting saplings, maintaining them and celebrating a pollution-free Green Diwali has increased.

Speaker Sandhwan said that the Punjab Government has also appealed to the students and employees of various departments to celebrate a pollution-free Diwali through the heads of schools, colleges and other government institutions.

Governor Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria while appreciating the above thought of Speaker Sandhwan said that strict measures are also being taken by NGT and Pollution Control Board to prevent pollution.

CHANDIGARH, October 30:Amidst the ongoing intensified efforts to wipe out drugs from the state, Punjab Police has arrested 10524 drug smugglers including 153 big fish after registering 7686 first information reports (FIRs) in last 10 months, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.

Pertinently, Punjab Police has adopted a twin approach to tackle the drug menace, focusing on cracking down on big fish and targeting drug sellers at the point of sale including villages and mohallas.

DGP Gaurav Yadav, while divulging details on recovery of drugs in 2024, said that the Police teams have recovered 790-Kg Heroin from across the state after carrying out cordon and search operations in drug-affected areas besides laying nakas at vulnerable routes across the state.

Apart from seizing heroin, the Police teams have also recovered 860-Kg opium, 367 quintals of poppy husk, 93-Kg charas, 724-Kg ganja, 19-Kg ICE and 2.90 crore tablets/capsules/injections/vials of Pharma opioids from across the state, he said, while adding that the Police have also recovered Rs 13.62 crores of drug money from the possession of drug smugglers arrested this year.

The DGP said that Punjab Police have also forfeited properties of 362 big smugglers worth Rs 208 crores since January 1, 2024, while, as many as 470 cases to freeze properties worth 289 crores are pending with the competent authority for approval.

“Recently, Punjab Police has got a huge success in ongoing fight against drugs after successfully executing the orders of preventive detention of a top drug smuggler identified as Avtar Singh alias Tari of border village Shahur Kalan in Gurdaspur district,” he said.

Notably, accused Tari had been detained under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) act for two years and sent to Central Jail Bathinda. This was the first case of preventive detention in which orders have been issued by the competent authority under section 3 (1) and section 10 of PIT-NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing special drive to arrest Proclaimed Offenders (POs)/Absconders in NDPS cases, Punjab Police has arrested 731 POs/Absconders this year.

Development authorities earn Rs 2060 Cr from e-auction of properties: Hardeep Singh Mundia

Success of e-auction puts seal on Investment friendly policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led State government

Total Rs 5000 Cr earned through e-auction in last two months

Chandigarh, October 30-Development authorities working under the Department of Housing and Urban Development have earned revenue of Rs 2060 Cr from the e-auction of various properties. The auctioned properties include group housing, petrol pumps, hotel sites, SCOs, booths, and industrial and residential plots under the jurisdiction of development authorities.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundia said that the credit for the success of e-auction goes to the transparent and investment-friendly policies of the State government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He said that two months ago, Rs. 3000 Cr was earned and now adding today's amount has earned a total of Rs 5000 Cr through e-auctions which proves that the public's confidence in the real estate sector is increasing due to the constructive urban development policies of the government.

S. Mundia said that the e-auction, which started on October 18, ended late yesterday evening. He said that the overwhelming response to the e-auctions conducted over one month is clear that the Chief Minister's efforts to bring investors to the state have been successful. He revealed that the auction process was completely transparent and those who either wanted a roof over their heads or wanted to run businesses, their wishes have been fulfilled.

Congratulating the successful bidders, the Minister said that the possession of the auctioned sites will be handed over to the bidders as per the scheduled time in the auction. The auctioned sites are located in Mohali, Amritsar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Bathinda and Sangrur.

S. Mundia, giving the details of the auction, said that a bid of Rs 31.16 Cr was received for the petrol pump site located at IT City Sector 83-A of Mohali. The group housing site of Sector 78 fetched a bid of Rs 163.87 Cr and the hotel site of Sector 78 itself was auctioned for Rs 33.47 Cr. Apart from this, 4 commercial sites of Sector 68, IT City, 5 industrial plots in Sector 101-A, SCOs, booths and 334 residential plots located in different sectors of Mohali were received as well.

The Housing and Urban Development Minister while divulging the details said that GMADA earned Rs 1894 Cr, GLADA Rs 61.75 Cr, BDA Rs. 16.08 Cr, PDA 59.62 Cr, JDA Rs 12.25 Cr and ADA earned Rs 16.30 Cr.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Police Sub-Inspector taking Rs 15,000 bribe

Accused previously received Rs 5,000 as first instalment

Chandigarh October 30, 2024 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its drive against corruption in the state, on Tuesday nabbed a Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Mandeep Singh, Incharge, police post, Nabipur, under police station Sirhind, district Fatehgarh Sahib, red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned police personnel has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Vineet Kumar, a resident of Ludhiana.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused Inspector was demanding Rs 25,000 to release his two private ambulances which had met with an road accident with a truck but the deal was stuck at Rs. 20,000. In this regard a case was registered at the police station. The complainant further alleged that the said accused had already received Rs 5,000 as first instalment of bribe money.

The spokesperson further said after a preliminary enquiry of this complaint a VB team from economic offences wing (EOW) laid a trap during which the police personnel was arrested while he was accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard a case has been registered against the accused under prevention of corruption act at VB police station EOW, Ludhiana range and further investigation into this case was under process, he added.
