CHANDIGARH, December 21:In a bid to achieve a sustainable future, Punjab has been working on a strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and transition to green energy, said Punjab New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Mr. Aman Arora, while citing the wise words of First Sikh Guru Nanak Dev Ji, “Pavan Guru Pani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahat” (The air is the teacher, the water is the father, and the earth is the great mother).

He was addressing an event organised by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) to celebrate State Energy Conservation Day in association with Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, here at a hotel.

He said that hundreds of years back our Guru has given the status of Guru to the Air. “I am happy that the world is finally waking up to the harsh reality of climate change and it is imperative that we acknowledge the gravity of this crisis and work collectively to protect the planet earth.”

He said that Punjab Government has successfully shifted 6800 MW to renewable energy by making over 1000 government buildings including schools an energy efficient. Another project is underway to shift 6200 MW more to renewable energy. Apart from this, 2.16 Lakhs energy efficient BEE 4 star rated agriculture pump-sets installed in the State. More than 750 buildings are ECBC compliant in the State.

He also urged the people of the state that the government needs their support to transform Punjab into the energy efficient state. He said that the Government can only set the ecosystem but the main responsibility comes to the private players as they have to adopt and equip their organisations with the energy efficient technologies.

He drove a new term from old saying ‘Money saved is money earned’ to ‘Energy saved is Energy Generated’ depicting the importance of energy in future. He also inaugurated the exhibition on energy efficiency technologies and energy conservation day function.

Principal Secretary New and Renewable Energy Sources Mr. Ajoy Kumar Sinha emphasised upon the need of energy conservation and energy efficiency in the State to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of power, besides urging to adopt renewable energy sources and use power judiciously adopting energy conservation & energy efficiency measures.

Director PEDA Mr. M.P. Singh highlighted the initiatives taken under energy conservation programmes in the State, while informing the audience about the importance of energy conservation and clean energy in various areas. He also mentioned that Punjab is pioneering in implementing ECBC, more than 85 capacity building programs conducted, leading State in incentivising ECBC & Green Buildings, Punjab is amongst the top performing States in Energy Efficiency sector.

GRIHA Council Deputy CEO Ms. Shabnam Bassi, VP Business Development Global Network for Zero Mr. Gaurav Mukhija and senior officers from the stakeholder departments including PSPCL, Water Supply and Sanitation, PWD, Local Government, Health, Medical Education and Research, GMADA were also present during the celebration of State Energy Conservation Day.

Chandigarh, December 21-The Punjab Government will hold a special camp on December 23 in Tarn Taran to remove errors in the Unique Disability ID (UDID) card. This announcement was made by Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development.

Divulging in this regard, Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that despite the certificates of the divyang Persons 100 percent disabled, their disability was underreported in the UDID card, due to which they are not getting the benefits of various schemes. Dr. Baljit Kaur said that Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) is generated to provide the benefits of all the schemes and services of the Central and Punjab Government to the disabled on the basis of a single card.

The Minister said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to the welfare of the Divyang Persons. She said that special camps will be organized in every district of Punjab to remove the errors in the UDID card.

Notably, that during a recent annual event of the Punjab Divyang Action Committee held in Tarn Taran, a demand was made for corrections in UDID cards, which the minister has promptly acted upon.

The Cabinet Minister also directed the District Social Security Officers to organize special camps at the district level in coordination with the Civil Surgeon of their district so that the Divyang Persons can avail the benefits of government schemes.

She appealed to the Divyang Persons to take maximum advantage of this opportunity by attending these camps. Those Divyang Persons whose UDID cards have not been updated can get their UDID Cards corrected by bringing their Divyang certificate along with their Aadhaar card. government's initiative for differently-abled individuals in Punjab.

CHANDIGARH/PATHANKOT, December 21:In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Pathankot has busted a gangster module with the arrest of its two members leading to the recovery of two sophisticated 9MM Glock pistols along with four magazines and 14 cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sunil Kumar alias Ashu, a resident of Rauwal in Batala and Dilpreet Singh alias Dil, a resident of Raimal in Batala. Accused Sunil alias Ashu has a criminal history with case under NDPS act registered against him. He was released on bail from Gurdaspur Jail on February 27, 2024.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that accused persons had received the consignment of weapons from Ajnala area of Amritsar following directions of their handlers and were instructed to deliver it further to an unknown party. Further investigations are underway to uncover the source of the weapons and identification of more suspects involved in the network, he added.

Sharing operation details, AIG CI Pathankot Sukhminder Singh Mann said that a secret information was received that accused Sunil Kumar and Dilpreet Singh are in touch with some unknown gangsters and recently they have received a consignment of arms and ammunition from them. Following the input, the teams of CI Pathankot laid a trap and arrested both the accused persons after recovering arms and ammunition from their possession, he said.

The AIG said that efforts are being made to track the previous consignments retrieved and delivered by the accused persons.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 71 dated 21.12.2024 has been registered under section 25 of the Arms Act and section 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar. The arrested accused will be produced in the court in due course to obtain police remand.

Speaker Sandhwan expresses grief over demise of Harvinder Singh Hanspal

Chandigarh, December 21-Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan has expressed deep grief over the demise of S. Harvinder Singh Hanspal.

In a press release issued today, the Speaker paid tributes to Hanspal, highlighting his remarkable contributions. Hanspal, 86, represented Punjab in the Rajya Sabha from 1980-1992 and served as President of the Namdhari Darbar International Organization since 1970.

The Speaker praised Hanspal's services to society as a leader, saying he will always be remembered for his dedication.

S. Sandhwan prayed for eternal rest for Hanspal's soul and strength for his family during this need of hour.

Chandigarh, December 21:Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian inaugurated two-day "C PEX- Chandigarh Pet Expo-2024" and 76th All Breed Dog & Horse Show here at Parade Ground, Sector-17, on Saturday.

The event, is being held from 10 am to 8 pm, will showcase more than 500 dogs belonging to 30 different breeds participating in a series of fun events that will be judged by a jury of international judges. The show is being organised by the CAT Consult in association with Chandigarh Kennel Club, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Small Animals Clinicians’ Association (SACA).

S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that the importance of pets is increasing with the rise in nuclear families and this exhibition presents a chance for all stakeholders to discuss various issues related to the welfare of pet animals. It is also a model for protecting birds and animals.

He informed that at present 1367 Civil Veterinary Hospitals, 1489 Civil Veterinary Dispensaries and 22 Veterinary Polyclinics are engaged in the service of the state’s livestock. Under the ASCAD Scheme, dewormers worth Rs. 6.27 crore have been purchased, and equipment worth Rs 74 lakh has been provided for upgrading of polyclinics in the state, S. Khudian added.

Director Animal Husbandry Department Punjab Dr G S Bedi said that this show will prove to be a milestone in the history of tri-city. The premier exhibition is a perfect platform for the pet industry, manufacturers, wholesalers and service providers to present products for pets to consumers. Dr. J P S Gill, Vice Chancellor Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, said that the University is providing specialised services to the animals.

Hardeep Singh, founder and CEO of CAT Consults, Raminder Singh organiser and Sh. Parminder Singh Thethi, President Chandigarh Kennel Club, said that Chandigarh Pet Expo is a great opportunity for pet owners to interact with veterinarians and industry. The event will draw the top dogs and breeders from across the North India, featuring more than 50 exhibitors including well known brands i.e. Allana, Nestle Purina,Virbac Animal Health India Pvt Ltd., Mankind Consumer Healthcare Pvt.
