MAHENDERGARH, 01.07.24-CUH Revises Eligibility Conditions to Promote Multidisciplinary Education.
As a step forward towards implementation of National Education Policy-2020(NEP-2020), Central University of Haryana has revised the eligibility condition for admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered in academic session starting from July 2024. Considering it as a major breakthrough towards promoting multidisciplinary education, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar hailed the NEP-2020 as a vision document for the future of the nation and remarked that this initiative of the University would provide greater freedom of choice to the students seeking admission to UG and PG programmes. It will break the silos between the disciplines and students shall have wider options to choose their academic pathways.
Prof. Sanjiv Kumar, Dean Academic and Coordinator for implementing NEP-2020 at Central University of Haryana, highlighted that the revised eligibility conditions shall facilitate a large number of such students who wish to change the discipline and stream of learning after senior secondary or bachelor’s programme.
Prof. Kumar cited the example of Master’s programme in various subjects of social sciences, languages, Management, Geography, Library and Information Science, Tourism and Hotel Management, Yoga, Statistics and Mathematics where, according to the revised guidelines, a candidate possessing Bachelor's degree from any recognized University in any discipline with a minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate (relaxation of 5% to the SC/ST/PWD/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) is eligible to apply for admission to any of these programmes (through CUET), motivating the students to explore the possibility of higher education beyond their core disciplines.
Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, who has also been appointed as the Coordinator of the North Zone universities for implementation of NEP-2020, shared that Central University of Haryana has pioneered in implementation of key recommendations of NEP-2020 such as Academic Bank of Credits, Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit, NEP-based Curriculum, National Credit Framework, Integration of Indian Knowledge System (IKS), Internationalisation of Higher Education, Collaborative Academic and Research initiatives, UG-PG integrated programmes, and other relevant guidelines towards implementation of National Education Policy-2020 issued by the University Grants Commission, and introduction of revised eligibility condition shall further help the University in expanding its horizon as a truly multidisciplinary research university. The Vice Chancellor of the University also assured that the University shall keep introducing innovative strategies towards learner-centric quality higher education.
