Mahendergarh, 26.06.24-The Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh is proud to announce the launch of an ambitious environmental project aimed at developing a 'Miyawaki Forest' on its campus by District Forest Department, Govt. of Haryana. The Miyawaki method, pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, involves the creation of dense, native forests in a short span of time. This technique promotes rapid growth and high biodiversity by planting a variety of native species close together. The result is a self-sustaining, low-maintenance forest that can grow up to 10 times faster and become 30 times denser than conventional forests.

Professor Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of CUH, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "The Miyawaki Forest initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of fostering sustainable development and environmental stewardship. We are excited to see our campus become a model for green practices and ecological restoration." He also thanked District forest department for selecting CUH for this ambitious project.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar said that the forest will serve as a living laboratory for students and researchers, providing hands-on learning experiences in ecology, botany, and environmental science. The project aims to involve local communities, raising awareness about environmental conservation and encouraging participation in tree-planting activities. The lush greenery will enhance the campus landscape, providing a serene environment for students, staff, and visitors, while also improving air quality and offering recreational spaces.
Mr. Raj Kumar, District Forest Officer said that the forest department plans to commence planting activities in the upcoming monsoon season and it will be a model for the whole district and more Miyawaki forest will be developed in other arear in future. The proposed forest will cover approximately 2.5 acres of land on the campus, transforming a degraded into a vibrant ecosystem. Total of approx. 10000 plants will be planted.
