*Chandigarh:13.12.24-* Save Indian Family (SIF), an organization advocating for men's rights, organized a candle march at the Sector 17 Plaza today, demanding justice for Atul Subhash. Addressing the gathering, the organization's president, Rohit Dogra, stated that legal harassment, extortion through laws, and false accusations tragically claimed the life of a promising engineer, Atul Subhash. He asserted that Atul did not commit suicide; rather, the system was responsible for his death. Dogra demanded a thorough investigation into Atul’s case to hold those accountable and ensure strict punishment for the culprits.
He emphasized the long-standing demand of his organization for the central government to establish a Men's Commission and a Ministry for Men's Welfare, akin to the National Commission for Women and the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Dogra highlighted that in a country like India, where over 50 laws exist for women's safety, where more than 10,000 NGOs work for women, where crores of rupees are allocated for women's welfare, and where a dedicated ministry exists for their development, there is absolutely no provision for men, who make up half the population.
According to NCRB data for 2022, the number of suicides committed by men annually stands at 1,22,724, compared to 48,172 for women. The number of married men committing suicide is 83,713, while for married women, it is 30,771. In India, a man commits suicide every 4.4 minutes, and a married man every 6.5 minutes.
SIF-Chandigarh activists participating in today’s protest included Ankur Sharma, Gaurav Raheja, Mahesh Kumar, Sandeep Kumar, Mohit Arora, Ravinder Singh, Jasjot Singh, Amandeep Singh.
