Chandigarh, April 5- Chief Electoral Officer Haryana, Sh. Anurag Agarwal said that strict vigilance will be ensured on the sale of illicit liquor in Haryana during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Excise and police department officials will closely monitor this matter and periodically check the records of authorized liquor vendors.

He said that appropriate steps have been taken to enforce a complete ban on the illegal sale, storage, and supply of liquor during the Model Code of Conduct during elections. All concerned officials have also been given strict directions that there should be no illegal sale or storage of liquor during the elections. Immediate action will be taken against anyone found involved in such activities.

Sh. Anurag Agarwal said that police officers, Forest and STF teams have been formed at interstate borders by the district administration to prevent the influx of illegal liquor from outside. A control room has also been established at the Haryana Excise and Taxation Department headquarters in Panchkula to maintain control at the state level.

Sh. Anurag Agarwal said that ahead of Lok Sabha general elections 2024, citizens need to be vigilant and participate in the elections. Through the C-Vigil mobile app, the general public has been empowered to act as election observers, where they can lodge complaints of violations of the Model Code of Conduct. Citizens can also send photos, videos, and audio through their mobile phones to the C-Vigil app. Action will be taken on the respective complaint within 100 minutes.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that citizens can download this application from the Google Play Store for Android phones and from the App Store for iPhones.The general public can upload photos or record two-minute videos on this app. The photo and video will be uploaded to the app with GPS location. The complaint will be resolved within 100 minutes of filing.

Chandigarh, April 5 - With the aim of creating awareness and motivating the masses to participate in the electoral process, popular public figures like sports persons have been designated as District Icons ahead of Lok Sabha General elections scheduled for May 25 in Haryana in 2024.

Sharing more details in this regard, Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Anurag Agarwal said that this unique effort that has been finalised today is initiated on the similar lines of the initiative taken by the Election Commission (EC) by designating Actor Rajkummar Rao, as a National Icon. He said that all Deputy Commissoners-cum District Election Officers have been directed to designate icons in their respective districts.

He said that the voter turnout in Haryana was higher than the national average in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, this time our goal is to take it up to 75 percent.

Sh. Anurag Agarwal said that icons have been designated for various districts, including the gold medalist in shooting at Asian Games 2023 Palak for Jhajjar district, the bronze medalist in shooting at the 19th Asian Games Adarsh Singh for Faridabad district, the third-place winner in the 19th Senior Para Powerlifting Championship Suman Devi and the player from the state team in the National School Games held in Bhopal Yashika for Panipat district, and the silver medalist in shooting at the 19th Asian Games Sarabjot Singh for Ambala district.

Similarly, the silver medalist in wrestling at the World Championship Sonam Malik for Sonipat district, Olympic hockey player Surender Kumar for Kurukshetra district, and the first-place winner in singing at the National Youth Festival Muskan Fatehabad district have been designated as icons.

Sh. Anurag Agarwal also urged the Deputy Commissoners-cum District Election Officers of other districts to designate election icons in their respective districts. He said that this year, the Election Commission of India has made "Chunav ka Parv - Desh ka Garv" the slogan for Lok Sabha elections so that citizens participate enthusiastically in the elections.

He appealed to the youth across the state, aged 18-19, who will vote for the first time, saying that when the youth engage with the electoral process, they will understand the power of democracy and the importance of their vote. Therefore, youth should not miss this opportunity because the festival of democracy comes once in 5 years.

Second Day of IG/SP conference begins with Yoga

Chandigarh, April 5 - The second day of the first-ever Inspector General/Superintendent of Police Conference being held in the state began with all police officers performing yoga. During this time, the police officers performed yoga with DGP Haryana Shatrujeet Kapur to adopt a stress-free lifestyle. In this yoga session, the police officers were taught various types of yoga asanas.

Yogacharya Hemant told the police officers in detail about the role of yoga practices like pranayama, bhastrika, and nadi shodhan in adopting a stress-free lifestyle. In addition, everyone in the yoga session performed meditation practices and chanting of the Gayatri mantra, which are beneficial for mental health.

During the yoga session, all police officers were also taught relaxation exercises. The yoga teacher taught Ustrasana, Shashkasana, Uttanamandukasana, Vakrasana, Makarasana, Bhujangasana, Shalabhasana, Setubandhasana, Uttanapadasana, Ardhahalasana, Pawanmuktasana, Shavasana, Kapalbhati, and Sheetali Pranayama. He also gave detailed information about the benefits of all these asanas to the yoga practitioners. The yoga session concluded with Shantipath.

Speaking on this occasion, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur said that through yoga, the body and mind can be kept healthy and pure. Yoga is a means of physical, mental, spiritual, and social health. Yoga shows us the way to live life in its entirety and removes the disorders of the body and mind. He said that we can lead a balanced life by adopting yoga. He said that yoga maintains balance in life and frees us from many types of diseases.

A government spokesperson, providing detailed information in this regard, stated that the akademi has invited entries from Haryana resident writers for schemes such as ‘Shrestha Kriti (Sahitik) Puraskar yojana, manuscript (Pandulipi) protsahan yojana, Short Story Competition, Drama Competition until May 15, 2024. Writers writing in Hindi, Sanskrit, Haryanvi, English, Punjabi, and Urdu languages can submit their literary works or manuscripts to the akademi for these schemes.

He further stated that for the first time from the year 2024, Drama Competition, Essay Competition, and Short Story Competition are being organized in Hindi, Sanskrit, Haryanvi, and Punjabi languages. Detailed guidelines for all these schemes and the expected forms for application are available on the akademi's website https://haryanaakademi.ac.in/.

He informed that the authors should ensure to obtain the forms and other documents from the akademi's website and send their entries to the akademi office by the specified date either by hand or through registered mail.
